Gu Zhiwei was in the middle of a meeting when the System took her. Survive the world. Clear the mission. And they get to go home. For a bit. Then it’s on to the next one. Other players get straightforward powers. Gu Zhiwei gets Retrocognition: every world, it loads the memories of a random life from some impossibly distant past. Whatever they could do, she can unlock. Basically, a blind box with a progression bar. At least, that's what she thinks until she finds out what those memories were actually capable of: A great shaman: Sure. Except she could also read the stars, name every medicinal plant, and put an arrow through a monster before anyone else finished screaming. A renowned scholar: Technically. He just happened to live in an age of warring states, where scholarship meant strategy, court politics, talismans, and ruining other people’s plans for a living. A saintess: Also technically. If you count witchcraft, spirit taming, and a script no one has read in a thousand years that lets her speak to ancient dragons. Gu Zhiwei has only one skill. The old legends just happened to be overachievers. And there are still more waiting in the worlds ahead. From tribes built above a sea of clouds to ancient imperial courts, empires of sword and sorcery, deep-space frontiers, plague-ravaged cities, and cyberpunk wastelands, Gu Zhiwei keeps moving from world to world. The strangers she was thrown in with, and the people the players insist are only NPCs, stop feeling temporary. They become the ones who keep watch while she sleeps. The ones who leave a light on for her. The ones who keep walking beside her when none of them know which world will be their last. The more she unlocks, the harder one question gets to ignore: was any of this random? Those borrowed memories feel far too natural, almost as if they were never borrowed at all.
