The event space for this year's convergent event was made to accommodate several thousand people, and thousands of royals nonetheless. The parterre itself was massive; it easily dwarfed the size of small towns and ate up most of the event space, but aside from the parterre, there were a few different buildings peppered around.
Food halls, staff halls, bathrooms, lounges, extracurricular spaces, and even bathhouses were placed sparsely around the parterre, but standing distinctly apart from it all, the central building would stand as the tallest, most opulent building of them all. Now, it was nothing more than rubble, but before the initial blast, the central building stood as an extravagant mansion made of marble and gold, adorned in rich reds and deep blues; the place screamed one percent.
Of all the buildings, this one stood the largest, the tallest, the most eye-catching, and the richest; not to mention, the central hall was the only building other than storage buildings that was installed with subspaces. Considering that running several kilometers to exit the event space would be a tall task for some Aspirants, let alone some mundane folk, most of the partygoers had evacuated themselves into these subspaces.
They were nearly impenetrable, and very few, except the creator themselves, had the power to destroy these subspaces or force the occupants out. It was truly the most absolute form of luxury in the Nightrealm. While the building itself may have been turned into rubble, the subspace would have stood as long as its core remained functional, which fortunately wouldn't be a problem since any non-royals would have been expelled on the spot.
It left a bad taste in June's mouth, knowing that the dead bodies he had passed by were only dead because they were born to the wrong families. If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it. Regardless of such a thought, June pinballed between Aspirants and mundane soldiers — killing them with a single, sloppy blow before moving on to the next. The closer he got to the center, the more concentrated the enemy forces became.
Like a swarm of locusts, dozens — no, hundreds of enemy soldiers popped out of the woodwork and continued toward the center to reinforce a ring around it.
'Why are they gathering?' He clawed at an armored Aspirant's helmet and bit his fingers into the metal, pinching it; then, with a jolt, June scrunched his grip and ripped his hand back, tearing the front of the man's metal helmet and his face off.
In his next bound, he moved to a mundane combatant; before the man had a chance to raise his sword, June stomped the blade down, shattering it, then twisted his entire body, delivering a devastating punch to the man's diaphragm, somehow causing his spine to jump out of his back like a canned snake toy. June's eyes glinted in morbid curiosity before moving to the next target in his path, ignoring many others, and only attacking the ones who managed to react on his way to the center.
He sidestepped an arrow and dashed to the sender with blinding speed; he curved around to their side and grasped the back of their head before sweeping their legs and throwing their head forward with vicious force. The archer folded inward, killing him instantly; his ribs tore from the force and pierced out of his stomach, and his flesh split from the tension of being suddenly folded unnaturally.
He revolted at the results of his impulsive test, but his body kept moving; no matter how much blood was spilled, he was so close to the central hall… he was so close to getting to Lilia. Like an excited dog, a new burst of energy overtook him, and his trail of blood thickened as his strength became more and more unbridled.
