Chương 61: (B2 Chapter 12)

Uwoc's POV I turned around and tripped over one of the monsters with my tail, while my sword slashed the other clean through its armour. The downed monster was killed off by one of my kind, and we were off to our next targets. It was basically a clean-up job at this point. The short green ones were all easily dealt with; one of our poisons making the job extremely simple. The biggest monsters with the tusks were trickier, but our kind were experts with herbs.

We had formed a combination of herbs during the tutorial that knocked out even the biggest of them. They slept through while we burnt their large hut to the ground, and they also weren't aware of their own bodies burning. I think instead of putting them to sleep, they were unconscious, and remained that way even through the immense pain of burning alive. Our kind's herb-masters were scary. No wonder so many of them had gotten class upgrades to their starter alchemist classes.

The system hadn't given them much, but their natural knowledge of herbs came in handy. It was quite simple really; the system had provided all the hints. Most animals in this tutorial had avoided one kind of bush, as that one was poisonous. The birds along the river never landed on or touched the leaf of one kind of tree that was only found near the river. Testing it out, we found the leaves secreted minute amounts of a powerful sedative each.

It was then concocted into what we thought would put the giant monsters to sleep, but had instead completely knocked them out. From there, it was just a matter of putting the concoction into their food and then killing off the stragglers. For our kind that had spent eons in and around nature, the tutorial had been quite simple. Yes, the monsters were challenging, and we had lost quite a few, especially at the start. It had taken us time and effort to not only start gaining levels but also to perfect our concoction.

But, as always, the answer lay within nature. The larger ones amongst us had gone for combat classes, while the smarter ones had gone for production and support. The wisdom of our ancestors truly has no bounds. One thing that still eluded our kind in this new system was mana. We didn't understand it, and even the oldest amongst our kind didn't remember ever hearing about it in the ancestral sermons.

It was new for us, just like this system, and the council of elders needed to convene to guide us on what to do about this new world order. Unfortunately, none of the elders had been spawned in our tutorial. It was truly a shame, but we couldn't do anything about fate. There were so many different clans represented here in our tutorial from all over our world, that it was probably just bad luck an elder didn't arrive in this tutorial. I just hope that we would find our elders soon.

Perhaps they would be waiting for us when the tutorial ended, already familiar with the system through their wisdom? We had just finished off another group of monsters when a system message arrived. I looked through it in detail, and figured out that we needed to get back to our safe area fast. I communicated my orders, which were naturally followed by everyone.

We rushed back to the designated safe area, with the system's message about completing the tutorial early and getting the Pioneer title all I could think about. Our bodies were already adapted for moving through forests, so we easily reached back to our base in a short time. Once we got in, we saw everyone gathered around discussing the system screen. My arrival caused everyone to quiet down, but before I could say anything, another system screen arrived.

It was an assessment of my performance in the tutorial by the system, much like it had done at the start. It said that my individual contribution was adequate, but the united effort of our kind which allowed us to achieve victory three days early in the tutorial meant that the final rating was improved. I got a B rating, better than the one I got in the start. Dismissing the screen, another took its place. Ding! Tutorial completed. Prepare to be transported back to Planet 2185.

The system moved me through unexplainable distances, before I found myself in an unfamiliar and unnatural surface. It was hard, rough, and black. I looked up to see weird metal contraptions lined up on either side of this black surface, while huge, tall, rectangular structures towered high above on either side. I had no idea where I was. Is this another test by the system? Luckily, it answered through another system screen. This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author's consent.

Chris's POV Now this is more like it. I stabbed my sword through the large spider, spilling ichor all over the road. Immediately after, I spun around, my sword taking a few spider legs with itself. Back in the tutorial, I had just stayed quiet and did what I was told. Just like I had my whole life. Just do what you're told, and everything will be alright. The life motto I had lived by. I listened to Lucas and Sara, trusting I was contributing towards our collective goals.

Lucas's words and constant encouragement had felt so good, but not even close to how good it felt when I sliced something with my sword. The feeling of a sword's blade parting flesh was just so electric! I had wanted to drown in that feeling, and I had wanted to just keep fighting those damned monsters. However, Lucas and Sara always had a plan, and that plan always boiled down to them getting all the fights, while the rest of us acted as a bunch of nothings that were just there to support them in their glory.

Why couldn't I fight and get all the glory? Who made it so that only Lucas's party got all the attention? My sword sliced through yet another spider before I realized that all of them were gone. Just when I had started having fun… I was just thinking about going on a search for other monsters to fight when a clapping sound reached my ears. I turned around, sword raised, to see a guy walking towards me clapping slowly.

He had a sharp, angular face, with greased back hair and a smirk that looked like it was permanently plastered on his face. His smirk widened into a full-blown smile when his eyes met mine, but I noticed that the smile didn't quite reach his eyes. I also knew him, he was one of the rogues in our tutorial if I remember correctly.

"Wonderful fight, man! Just amazing! You have a real knack for fighting; you should do it more often!" he exclaimed, still walking towards me. I let out a snort, "Yeah, tell me something I don't know. Now, what do you want?"

"Nothing at all. I was just admiring your fight, and you seemed so happy during it. That smile on your face while you were killing those spiders was just beautiful, I wanted to tell you that, that's all," he said, still smirking. This guy's weird…

"Thanks, man. I'll see you around, then," I turned around and started walking away, already thinking about what I could fight next.

"Wait!" I heard him call out. I turned back around, getting a bit annoyed at this guy.

"What?" I asked, exasperated.

"I found out a huge lair of monsters, want to hit it together?" he asked.

"Really?" I blurted out before I could stop myself. He smirked in response at my eagerness.

"Yes," he nodded, "come on, I'll show you. You can then decide if you want to hit them or not." I hesitated for a bit, but ultimately my desire for a fight won out. I ran to catch up to the retreating back of the guy. Soon, I was walking beside him, and he gave a slight nod in my direction, but otherwise continued on silently. A short while later, he gestured at me to slow down and move silently. I obliged, as he led me into a building and we started climbing the stairs.

We soon reached the top of the seven-story building, and he led me out to the roof. He silently made his way to the corner and gestured at me to come take a look. I was feeling a bit wary all of a sudden, and instead of going near him, I went to the edge of the roof about three paces away from him, keeping an eye on him out of the corner of my eye. I looked down at where he was pointing, and saw a huge collection of large, reptilian creatures in the building directly across from ours.

They were about the size of a crocodile, and numbered more than a hundred easily. I looked back at the guy, and he hadn't moved an inch from his spot. He was still staring at the creatures, but he must have sensed me looking at him as he turned towards me. Our eyes met, and he slowly made his way over.

"You love to fight; I saw that earlier. I can help you fight as many fights as you want, and no one will ever stop you," he whispered. I turned back towards the lizards, imaging my sword slicing through each one of them with barely concealed joy. Still, this sounded too good to be true.

"What do you want in return?" I asked warily.

"Just your friendship," he replied. I searched his eyes, but couldn't find anything that made me think he was lying. He looked like a slinky bastard when I first saw him, but… was I wrong…?

"I'm Jonah by the way," he held out his hand.

"Chris," I replied, shaking his hand. Guess there's no harm in giving him a chance… he did lead me to these lizards…

"Pleasure to meet you, Chris. I take it you're a warrior?" he asked.

"Yup, which class do you have? I think I remember you being a rogue in our tutorial," I replied.

"You remembered me? That's amazing. I knew we had a connection!" he exclaimed.

"As for which class I am, you're right, I was a rogue earlier. Not anymore though. I'm an Assassin now."
