"So what's your plan?" Blick was anything but sold on the idea of getting more involved with this situation.
"Ok so this is probably going to sound crazy, but with so much happening we can't summon the soldiers from our central region. We have no reinforcing forces to even turn back and contest the port we fled. I sent word to Fitz of the situation and we decided to spend our resources on a communication scroll. It took us a while to get one which is why we happened to still be here when word of your arrival came. I have been coordinating with Fitz in the mean time.
He left the elite unit in charge of a skeleton crew at the gate, and is currently marching the rest of his company south down the river until it meets the sea." Blick cut in.
"You're going to pick him up?"
"First guess, not bad. Yeah his company and mine will go take back the port before crossing the sea to find out what happened to the Lord."
"He has a lot of scouts and trackers. That could work. But where do I come in? I have no interest in being part of a shuttle." Blicks reluctant tone was well received. Another soldier spoke up, this one much younger with a nearly spotless uniform.
"The enemy ship has no idea you exist." Captain Murdock pointed sideways to the soldier.
"What he said, they are going to be expecting our ship to coast back into their port. They won't be expecting a big furry monster man with near the strength of a solid layer cultivator. Last report places you closely under the elites of our kingdom. Higher than even myself with my 10 drops. While Fitz couldn't guess your actual advancement, he cobbled together an idea based on the reports of this new cat thing you fought off. Sounded looney to me, but I'm a sea guy not a forest guy. Either way.
If the report is true and Fitz is still a solid judge of character. I was hoping you would infiltrate the port town and help sneak our soldiers out before we got there. We could pick you up before we reached port and just skip the fight to go straight to the new continent." Blick stood there dumbfounded for a minute before looking to the nearly eye level, giant, yellow and blue bird.
"Yeah… he wasn't in any of Fitz's reports." The captain commented. Realizing how impossible a stealth mission would be with this specific duo. This novel is published on a different platform. The group sat and tossed out idea after idea to both rescue any living soldiers, and stop the enemy ship from damaging their ship enough to prevent a mission out to the other continent. Blick was invested because his ultimate goal was to travel the portals.
An escort over the sea was necessary. A military escort was more than a benefit. The issue resided in the fact that Blick was officially a wanted person in the very kingdom he was helping at the moment. He just got lucky these men had decided against the leadership in the capital. There would be very few clear allies in the coming months no matter what Blick chose. All the more reason to join this mission and make some.
"I have an idea that may solve both the ship and prisoners issue."
"Captain!" A teenage girl poked her head outside the door with a concerned expression and emergency in her voice.
"There is a lot of people out front demanding entrance! They brought weapons!" The soldiers began moving as a unit without needing orders to set themselves side by side between their captain and the doorway as a loud crashing sound came through. The bird moved itself out of the way with a hop and a flap up to the top of the large privacy fence surrounding the men. Captain Murdock turned to Blick from receiving the news with a stern expression.
"Whatever your plan is, go ahead and do your best. Just put the water on your right side and follow the coast. You'll find the large port in about a week of walking. Our trip will likely take a few weeks before we meet you there. If you manage to help our men you can have them camp a few miles out of town and in sight of the coast we will stop and pick them up along with you. Good luck." With a pat on Blicks shoulder the man nodded before turning to his soldiers.
"The goal is to prevent them from catching our new guest here. Hold your swings, use restraint, let's try not to kill anyone." He turned back to ask "do you need a path out?" Blick chuckled while shaking his head. Then he turned and flatfoot jumped over the nearly ten foot privacy fence and the bird took flight tearing off into the distance.
"Well shit Fitz wasn't lying." The captain said before turning to deal with the riot developing on the other side of the door. Blick tore through the small town at near full speed reaching the dock in seconds. Putting the screams of citizens behind him as his large fury mass blasted past a market area right before reaching the dock. Several large boats were roped up on the long pears reaching out into the water and out farther in the deeper water was a very large ship with three masts.
Blick took note of the off blue sails signifying the military nature of the boat before he turned. Putting the water to his right side he sprinted even faster throwing sand up behind him along the beach. The day was extremely eventful. Blick almost had whiplash from how a single day started with bitter sweet goodbye then turned into exhilarating speed before spinning into chaos again. A single day after months of calm. Life is wild.
