"We'll retire for the night," she said, supporting him toward one of the rooms.

"Of course. We have much to discuss before returning to the sect." They bid me goodnight and retreated to their room, sliding the door closed behind them. Alone in the courtyard, I took a moment to appreciate the peace of the evening: the gentle sway of the pine branches, the distant sounds of the town settling into night, the cool mountain air carrying the scent of herbs from Lin Mei's preparations.
