Cassian actively tries to learn spells. Most of his mastery progress comes from his own effort and practice. He has to start from scratch, just like a first-year student, learning everything from the very beginning. That is why there is some delay in his spell progression. On top of that, he also needs to catch up on magical history and theory in order to fulfill his role as a teacher. I am not sure how to fully adjust the table for mobile yet, but I will look into it! The list below may contain spoilers. The chapters gradually introduce them, so you don't really need the list, but if you'd like to know where Cassian stands, you can check below. Mastery: MAX First Used: Ch112 Reverse Spell Effect (Prior Incantato) Type: Base Spell Description: Reveals the most recent spell cast by a wand, manifesting as a magical echo or visual trace that briefly replays the last incantation and its effect. Commonly used in investigation and wand forensics.
Mastery: MAX Unlocked: Ch 113 Learned Ancient Variants Prior Vinculatus: An ancient and taxing variant that allows the caster to sense a specific spell currently being used within the surrounding area, rather than examining a wand's past. Conditions: The caster must already know the exact spell they are attempting to sense; the magic cannot identify unknown incantations. Cost: Extended use causes disorientation. Limitations: Only one spell can be tracked at a time.
Aero Spicula Type: Base Spell Description: Conjures a compressed weapon made of pure air pressure, shaped by the caster's will. Mastery: MAX First Used: Ch130 Consors Umbrae Type: Base Spell Description: Rather than erasing presence, the spell camouflages the caster by aligning them with their surroundings. Mastery: Emerging Unlocked: Ch142 Mending Charm (Reparo) Type: Base Spell Description: Repairs broken or damaged objects by restoring them to their intended original state. Mastery: MAX Unlocked: Ch 151 Boggart-Banishing Charm (Riddikulus) Type: Base Spell Description: Forces a boggart to assume a ridiculous or humorous form, weakening its power by stripping it of the fear it feeds upon. The spell's success depends on the caster's ability to impose levity, imagination, and emotional control over fear. Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
Mastery: MAX Unlocked: Ch 153 General Counter-Spell (Finite Incantatem) Type: Base Spell Description: Terminates active spell effects within the caster's range by unraveling their sustaining magic. Most effective against ongoing charms, jinxes, and hexes; instantaneous or deeply embedded magic may resist or only partially dissipate.
Mastery: MAX Unlocked: Ch 156 Sylvanima Type: Base Spell Description: Summons or controls living, vine-like magical growth from the surrounding environment to entangle, bind, or disarm a target. The magic responds to motion and intent, prioritizing restraint over direct harm, though excessive resistance can cause crushing or immobilizing force. Mastery: High Unlocked: Ch 157 Learned Ancient Variants Sylvanima (Ancient Form): Awakened as the ancient variant of Expelliarmus.
Note: Cassian harbors significant doubts about this classification. The spell's structure, intent-responsiveness, and semi-sentient growth patterns suggest a fundamentally different magical lineage, possibly druidic or pre-wand in origin, rather than a true derivative of Expelliarmus. Patronus Charm (Expecto Patronum) Type: Base Spell Description: Conjures a corporeal or non-corporeal manifestation of positive emotion, known as a Patronus, to repel Dementors and other despair-feeding entities.
The spell draws power from focused hope, memory, and identity; instability of emotion can cause failure or collapse of the Patronus. Mastery: MAX Unlocked: Ch 166 Full-Body Bind Curse (Perfectuc Totalus) Type: Base Spell Description: Locks the target's body into complete muscular rigidity, immobilizing them instantly while leaving consciousness intact.
The effect relies on overwhelming the target's nervous and motor channels simultaneously; resistance increases with physical resilience, magical reinforcement, or altered physiology. Mastery: MAX Unlocked: Ch 174 Learned Ancient Variants Corpus Obstrictus: An ancient petrification refinement that forces the stoning process through sustained magical pressure. Note: Corpus Obstrictus is significantly more taxing than Perfectuc Totalus.
When used against semi-resistant targets, the spell demands continuous exertion from the caster. During Ch 174, Cassian's use of Corpus Obstrictus on a semi-resistant werewolf resulted in a nosebleed, indicating magical strain from forcing the bind. Note: MAX Mastery means Cassian has passed the threshold of the Interface and was awarded with Ancient Variants. He can now cast those spells wandlessly and non-verbally, including the Ancient Variants, even if he hasn't reached MAX Mastery on the ancient variants themselves. This list will be updated as more spells and Ancient Variants are revealed.
