Thankfully, he is very weak and does not have any natural defences against my invasion–May I play around a little bit to see what is possible? As long as the objective is met, you can do whatever you want, sweetheart. Thanks, big sis! Alright, he's probably going to show some adverse reactions as I mess with things. It's my first time doing this, so I'll probably be way too brutal… Let me start with the problem at hand… I found out how they are going to recover his memories.
It's actually more simplistic than I would have imagined. The reason they locked him inside of some kind of box probably isn't merely to keep him in place when he is awake, but instead to stabilise the fact that they enchanted his brain as if it were an inanimate object This is simple but quite ingenious!
The enchantment used is a modified version of a common enchantment used by some smiths that sends them the details of how one of their creations was damaged or broken–Which allows them to know what it is that was able to do so, or in some cases, know if the insurance that went with the item can actually come into play There is insurance for things you buy at the blacksmith these days? I don't remember this in the olden days.
Some smiths also have a big reputation, so they have this enchantment as a failsafe in case someone were to try messing with them by pretending their craft wasn't that great, you see? Anyway… Whoever is trying to take a look at the nightmare trials used a modified version of this enchantment so that it would allow them to view this man's memories following his death They probably won't have access to all of his memories, though, but it's best to be careful.
Since the enchantment is technically considered foreign mana, I can force his own inner mana to cleanse it–He is probably going to be in immense pain, and he might die… Hopefully, he lives so I can mess around some more I'll start slow and steady Alright, do that, and if he starts showing signs of pain. I'll use it as an excuse to take him back to the room, but you can just go hard immediately after I say that.
Let's make all of these people panic as they think the nightmare trial can affect them without even sending any monster their way… Great idea, big sis! Nara and I immediately started our plan, and although I couldn't sense anything of what she was up to, the young man whose hand I had been squeezing for hours at this point soon began paling and trembling.
"Is something wrong?" I mustered up my sweetest voice, but made sure to say it loudly enough to attract the attention of the other people in the room.
"I… I… My head is-" He suddenly cried out in pain, leaning forward so greatly that his knees touched his chest before he fell to the ground. I carefully removed the little chick from my lap so that I could pretend to attend to the blind boy. Everyone was staring at the scene, and many had even stood up, clearly frightened by how sudden his affliction had been. He was already convulsing on the ground, and he was the one squeezing my hand now.
His screams died down, and he soon stopped moving–But he was still breathing. The enchantment has been cleansed! Good job, Nara. That's at least worth ten kisses on the forehead for when you get a physical body. I'm starting to worry the accumulation of kisses and hugs that await me is getting far too large Don't worry about it… I went ahead and picked the blind boy off the ground, quickly taking him away in a princess carry.
Naturally, everyone thought that I was simply taking him away for rest, but it really was because he was still alive, so Nara's experiments would continue, and I still needed to maintain physical contact so that my little sister could act. I placed him on the bed and locked the door before grabbing his hand again. Alright, go to town, Nara. Roger that!
I casually gagged him just in case, which turned out to be an excellent idea, as whatever Nara was getting up to must have been excruciatingly agonising, as even whilst unconscious, his body was convulsing wildly. Meanwhile, Nara was just rambling about what she was finding out. Oh my! I thought this was something only some special system owners had, but it turns out that it is just an unused feature that's part of the general system as well? Mara!
Turns out that all stats aren't actually distributed on each 'level up'. There are some that are left unattributed, but since most people have no access to the system, they just accumulate uselessly Is that so? Mmh… Can you attribute them yourself? You bet I can! If we ever go see those system fanatics, they'll be worshipping the ground you walk upon after you reveal to them that this is something you can do! If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
Come on, it's all you, Nara. Yes, but it just doesn't hit as hard to tell that you have a system doing it for you, you know? I am telling you, with this ability, you could totally become their leader, and they might give us actual system crystals, the pure stuff, unlike the piece that was turned into a compass With it, I might actually be able to loosen my restrictions and tell you so much more about the world and–Ouch! See?
I can't even mention certain things without getting my metaphorical fingers hit by the metaphorical ruler! It would be great to finally move past this! Mmh… I see, I see. Well, I'll need to consider it carefully. They might have also invited me into a trap, you know? Just because they worship the system doesn't mean that they wouldn't want to use people with special systems to their own ends. They could only want to capture me. We'll see this at a later date, though. What else did you find, sweetie?
This simple question was all that was needed to get Nara rambling again. Oh! Since I found the unattributed stats, I wonder if it also means that other functions believed to be unique to special systems actually existed in a regular system, but were simply going unused… You see, before I was made into a proper system, I was sort of just a non-corporeal entity. I was just learning … Is there some kind of school for future sapient systems or something? Of course! That was meant to be a joke.
That's where I learned everything that I know! Since no one knows what kind of sapient system we'll become exactly, we learn about everything, so I know about the famed 'skill points', but… Seems like they are truly only a thing for certain special systems Though it seems like I could forcefully awaken special system skills if I brute-force things a little bit. Another piece we could add to your resume!
Honestly, if the strange creatures are already worshipping you, and the potential you have to fool the System Fundamentalists… What do you say we actually make you a genuine goddess? How would we even do this? The monsters do seem to worship me, but I haven't sensed anything happening so far. If I am not mistaken, being genuinely worshipped is how most creatures can acquire divine energy and potentially ascend to the Divine Realm, but nothing has happened so far. …
Since these monsters are created by me, even if not directly, maybe they are considered artificial, and their faith just doesn't count? I think it is merely a bottleneck. Unless one somehow has predispositions or has other special circumstances, the typical being would require a high number of worshipers to first qualify to actually receive any benefits Otherwise, any random cult leader could use easily manipulated people to ascend to godhood.
If this were possible, divinities would be born all over the place all the time Huh… Does this mean that the snake bastard actually had a big following at some point? Probably, but it also could have been a descendant of a divine being and simply awakened divine energy by being worshipped by only a few people I see… Anything else? There is a whole lot more, big sis! The system is truly linked to everything! I can't alter everything on the same level, though.
The less directly related to system functions, the harder it is to mess with. Well… It is surprisingly easy to do destructive things, but actually modifying them carefully is mostly beyond my reach I would probably do better if they were curse or spirit-related, since I could borrow your affinities to sort of trick things into making them believe I actually have a right to be moving things around…
Regardless, this is still very interesting Since the Universal System is capable of granting things like innate abilities and such, even if I couldn't modify them directly, I could definitely analyse them and know what they are capable of exactly I found it pleasing to hear Nara be so happy. Other people would have probably been horrified that her adorable joy came with the torture of an innocent, but I personally believe that it made it better.
Obviously, the blind boy eventually died from how much Nara was snooping around, but it only happened after nearly thirty full minutes, so my little sister was very satisfied with what she had achieved, and if she was content, then so was I. Alright, how can I make his death useful now? The point was to fill the remaining survivors with so much dread that they would be too terrified to do anything, which would give me a nice amount of negative emotions and also entertain me.
As such, I made sure that no one was nearby and opened the window, using small doses of acid to make it seem as though something had forced its way inside from the outside, then. I debated what kind of horrific damage I should inflict on the corpse to make the later discovery extra awful. The more people puked on sight of it, the better. I needed to be careful about not soiling myself with blood, though.
Even the smell of blood clinging to my body could be found out, as there were beastfolks amongst the trial takers. In the end, I settled on carefully ripping his face off and just putting the bloody skin somewhere visible, as though the monster who had done it had just thrown it somewhere without looking. For some extra gore, I opened up his chest and used my monstrous head to devour his organs, only leaving intestines sticking out. After this, I simply left the room and went back down.
Putting on an expression of sadness and worry.
"Is… Is he alright?" The man who had come alongside the little chick asked me, as he was the first to notice my return. I stayed silent for a few moments, as if I needed to gather my words.
"He… It doesn't seem good at all. He regained consciousness, but every small sound makes his head hurt horribly. So I had to leave him alone, as even my breathing seemed to cause unbearable pain to him…" I sat down and soon felt a small hand going through my hair.
"Don't worry, Miss. Everything will be alright!" Oh, she's so cute, I could just… I pulled the adorably fuzzy chick into a hug, which she didn't seem to mind. I then pretended to fall asleep as everyone looked at one another, clearly worried that what had happened to the blind boy was something that could happen to anyone.
"We need to get moving. We can't just wait for the orc woman to come back!"
"I agree. What happened to the boy might have been this damned nightmare showing us that we aren't allowed to just stand around and do nothing""Yes, let's form groups and go right now!"
"Let's all meet back here. We return once we find something useful, or after one hour maximum" They'll all return here, heh? What might I do in the meantime?
