Nina looked outside the moving carriage, watching the buildings and scenery pass by along Lamb Street. A short while earlier, when she had asked for her clothes for the second time, the old lady had simply stood up and guided her back toward the dining room. However, the moment they entered, Nina's eyes began to hurt. When she opened them to see what was happening, she noticed that the windows had been opened wide, allowing sunlight to shine directly inside.
In front of her was a mountain of jewels, gold, expensive accessories, and countless pieces of clothing. Everything seemed to be screaming one thing.
"I have money." Although the display was less cluttered than the old lady's own outfit, Nina still felt slightly overwhelmed. After searching through the pile, she finally found her clothes and picked them up. Once she had them in her hands, she turned around and noticed one of the maids whispering something to the old lady. Since she had already obtained what she came for, Nina saw no reason to remain any longer. However, just as she was about to leave, the old lady called out to her.
"Hey, Nina." Nina froze. Hearing her name spoken so casually caused her to stiffly turn her head.
"Would you like me to have this escorted into your carriage?" Nina looked at the mountain of items before slowly shaking her head.
"No, thank you."
"But if I do not properly repay you for saving me, it would create an imbalance due to the cause and effect of the world." Nina's eyes twitched. Cause and effect. The system had mentioned something similar before. After hearing that, Nina sighed and looked back at the old woman. She had originally planned to refuse again, but then she remembered something.
"I do have something you can help me with to balance your guilt." The old lady looked at her curiously.
"What is it?" Nina thought for a moment before speaking.
"I hope you can advertise my store among the nobles within your circle and help me gain more customers." The old lady blinked.
"Your store?" The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
"Yes. Business has been rather slow lately, so it would be helpful."
"Oh, I see." The old lady nodded. As Nina was about to leave, she suddenly remembered something. That suspicious young man who had been with them during dinner had quietly left after the meal and headed toward the kitchen. She stopped near the door. After hesitating for a moment, she decided to speak.
"Hey, that young man who was with us during dinner..." She looked back slightly.
"You should keep an eye on him."
"He does not seem like a safe person." After saying that, Nina did not bother waiting to see the old lady's reaction. She simply walked away and entered the carriage that had already been prepared. Once inside, Nina looked down at her outfit. After confirming that nobody was nearby, she lightly touched the clothing. Slowly, it merged back into her body. The familiar feeling of the material returning was refreshing. …
After being escorted back to her home, Nina opened the door with the guidance of the system and stepped inside. What greeted her were multiple paintings. Paintings of her other personas. During the past seven days, due to Miss Roosevelt's instructions not to appear outside until the day she was supposed to meet the old lady, Nina mostly remained inside. While Miss Roosevelt handled everything outside, Nina spent her time painting the other personas and placing the paintings throughout the house.
She positioned them so that they would face her, especially in the areas where she would enter a deep state of concentration. Because of the other personas, even when she entered another world within her consciousness, Nina never truly felt alone. She felt as though her family was still there with her. Even though she knew they were only copies. Nina closed the door before stepping deeper into the residence. She guided her body toward the washroom, removing the items she had eaten during dinner.
After washing her hands once again, Nina sealed her body before making her way to her room. She laid down on the bed, allowing her body to enter sleep. Then, Nina stepped away. She ventured deeper into her consciousness, walking toward the barrier that separated her from the subconscious state. As she looked at the barrier, the timer appeared before her. 20 days, 17 hours, 51 minutes, and 6 seconds remaining. … Countdown. 5 minutes, 36 seconds. Nina stared at the timer. They were finally going to wake up.
During the past twenty days, Nina had fallen into a routine. Wake up, go to the store, impersonate someone for half a day or even less, and then return home to sleep. At some point, she began dealing with nobles. Because of that, her price range for nobles increased, while her prices for commoners remained the same. Nina looked at her debt. 6, 257, 000 out of 700 million. The people she had dealt with were not particularly important, but she had still managed to obtain divergence points from the system.
After seeing that Nina herself was working, the system analyzed that, in retrospect, her actions would not change anything. However, seeing that she was putting in effort, the system occasionally rewarded her with 0. 1 divergence points each time she completed a job. Her divergence points had now reached five out of one thousand. However, her values continued to fluctuate slightly. As the time for the personas to awaken grew closer, they slowly stabilized. Her will to live reached 42.
Her self-worth, on the other hand, remained at 16. Countdown. 1 minute and 59 seconds. It was nighttime. Nina was already lying on her bed, waiting for the personas to emerge. She sat quietly in front of the barrier that led to the subconscious state. Countdown. 56 seconds remaining. Nina did not move from her position. Countdown. 1 second remaining. Countdown complete. Subconscious personas, Lily, Damien, Lucian, and Elias, have now stabilized.
