The Pale Monarch struggled violently against the invisible chains that bound her. They were not forged from metal, nor woven from law, nor even sustained by the authority of a Founder. They were pure Atum in its rawest state, primal, chaotic, untouched by harmonization. Every movement she made caused the chains to tighten further, suppressing her authority over rules and leaving her increasingly powerless with each passing second. For the first time in ages, genuine fear entered her eyes.
"Impossible…" she whispered, her voice strained beneath the pressure crushing her divine form.
"Atum is the source of our power. Only chaotic Atum can sever our authority… but chaotic Atum cannot be controlled. It is too unstable, too violent. It must be calmed, harmonized, before it can ever be wielded." Her golden eyes trembled as she stared up at him.
"So how? How are you controlling its primal form?" Kealix stood before her in silence for a long moment, his dark hair shifting gently in the dying winds. Behind him, reality itself groaned beneath the aftermath of their battle. Yet despite all of that destruction, despite the bloodshed and despair, his gaze remained soft as it rested upon her.
"You truly are beautiful, my love," he said quietly. Her expression faltered. For a brief moment, the war vanished. The chains vanished. The screaming heavens vanished. There was only him. Then Kealix continued.
"The All…" The moment those words left his mouth, something inside the Monarch changed. Her pupils dilated.
"No…" she whispered instinctively.
"No, the All is a myth. It does not exist." Kealix smiled then,"And yet it does," he replied softly.
"The All lives. The perfect canvas upon which existence itself was drawn. The origin beneath every law, every strand of Chroma, every fragment of Atum. Its first daughter became the vessel through which reality could breathe… and still none of us saw it. Not even the beings born directly from existence's will acknowledged it." He slowly lifted his gaze toward the fractured heavens above them.
"Tell me, Thalia," he said quietly, "why do you think that is?" The Pale Monarch's body trembled. Even now, bound and weakened, her mind moved faster than stars. Realization spread across her consciousness piece by piece, horrifying in its implications.
"The prison…" she whispered slowly.
"It was never inside existence at all…" Kealix's smile deepened.
"You truly are as brilliant as the day I met you." He stepped closer.
"Their prison exists within the center of the All itself," he explained.
"A place where Chroma and Atum become so infinitely dense that movement ceases entirely. Time stagnates. Thought stagnates. Reality cannot function there because reality itself is overwhelmed by the magnitude of its creator. Within that place, even consciousness becomes still. They are trapped inside perfect stagnation, sealed by a power so absolute that escape becomes impossible." His eyes darkened.
"A prison only those with the strongest signatures can survive entering." The Monarch stared at him in silence for several moments, and as she did, her divine state finally began to collapse completely. The radiant gold of her hair faded slowly back into its natural bright orange hue, the godhood sustaining her weakening beneath the suppression of the chains. The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Then she spoke again, quieter this time.
"You trapped them there…" she murmured.
"Do you truly not understand what you have done?" Kealix remained silent.
"If they escape," she continued, her voice growing more desperate, "they will emerge stronger than before. Far stronger. We barely sealed them the last time, and that was with all of us united. If they return after adapting to the All itself…" Her breathing grew uneven.
"They will destroy everything." She looked directly into his eyes.
"And you…" she whispered.
"How do you intend to return once you seal yourself there?" For the first time since the battle began, Kealix's expression hardened completely.
"Because unlike them," he said, "I shall possess a vessel." Confusion flickered across her face.
"That is impossible," she snapped.
"No vessel can withstand your existence. Your body itself is composed of pure Atum. That is why our son had to be forged from a crafted soul in the first place." At the mention of their child, something painful crossed Kealix's face. Then he turned away from her.
"But I created one." The words were quiet.
"A body capable of containing my power while perfectly sealing it. A being born from every flaw reality possesses, compressed into one singular existence. Imperfect in every conceivable way… and therefore perfect." His voice lowered further.
"A vessel capable of holding my soul while remaining unable to access the totality of my power." The Monarch's eyes widened slowly.
"The Father of Flaws…" she whispered. Kealix nodded once.
"The perfect imperfection." Her breathing stopped for a moment.
"We already concluded such a being was impossible to create," she said.
"Its existence violated every principle of reality itself." Her eyes shook violently as she stared at him.
"What did you do?" Kealix finally looked back at her. And the moment she saw his expression, terror consumed her completely.
"I believe," he said softly, "you already know."
"No…" The word escaped her immediately.
"No. No, no, no, Kealix, you didn't." Her voice broke apart.
"You couldn't have." Before she could continue, the chains surged violently around her body. They wrapped across her throat, her arms, her legs, sealing her movements entirely as the raw Atum forced her into silence. Her mouth snapped shut against her will. Her divine soul began tearing away from her body piece by piece, streams of radiant essence flowing outward like liquid starlight. Then the crystal coffin emerged. Transparent and beautiful, formed from compressed Atum and frozen law.
Slowly, it opened before her. Kealix stared at her for a long moment. There was no triumph in his eyes. Only grief.
"If I had another choice," he whispered, "then everything would be different." The coffin closed around her.
"But I do not." The crystal sealed shut.
"So please… I ask not for forgiveness." His gaze softened one final time.
"Only acceptance." With a wave of his hand, the Tower reacted. The shattered heavens reconstructed themselves layer by layer. Endless regions reformed across existence: frozen wastelands, burning deserts, storms of acid, kingdoms of ash, oceans of ruin. The Tower expanded endlessly once more, its structure stabilizing beneath Kealix's authority as Atum stagnated across its foundation.
The Original Arcana watched silently as each Founder was separated and sealed within distant regions of the Tower, isolated from one another by immeasurable stretches of distorted reality. Their souls could no longer freely return to their bodies. Their power was suppressed beneath the stagnation flooding the Tower itself. Only the strongest beings would ever be capable of wielding their authority within this place now. The Original Arcana's many eyes narrowed.
"So," it asked quietly, "what happens now?" Kealix snapped his fingers once. The Tower stabilized completely.
"We wait." His voice echoed across existence.
"We feed this Tower with powerful spawn. We nurture it. Strengthen it. Allow generations to rise and perish within it until heirs worthy of inheriting the Founders finally emerge." The Original Arcana closed its eyes.
"I see." Its form then separated into twenty-two distinct entities, each embodying one fragment of Arcana's existence. Three additional beings emerged beside them.
"Xerax. Frost. Mist." The three bowed.
"I entrust this place to you," Kealix said calmly.
"Protect it until my return." His gaze shifted toward Arcana.
"Keep my friends safe." Then his voice darkened.
"And if any angel enters this Tower…" The atmosphere itself trembled.
"Kill them immediately." Silence followed. Finally, Kealix looked toward the endless heavens beyond the Tower, toward the distant prison awaiting him within the All.
"And above all else," he continued softly, "when the Father of Flaws awakens…" His hand rested lightly against the mask his wife had once gifted him, the symbol of her love, now stained by tragedy.
"Guide him." The winds of existence slowed around him.
"I shall await the completion of his ascension…" The space around his body distorted.
"… within my prison of eternity." Then Kealix vanished. Transported beyond Atum. Beyond time. Beyond existence. Into the eternal stillness hidden within the center of the All. There, surrounded by three of his creations, guarded from the horrors that wandered that endless void searching for sustenance, Kealix von Eskarion remained suspended in silence. Waiting. Watching. His mask rested peacefully upon his face as eternity stretched onward before him.
And the vessel destined to inherit his power slowly approached the beginning of its journey.
