Tuthmosis felt sick as he shut the door. That POS had me going there, he really did. He lost me at the end; the performance was just a little too over the top. Tut looked over at the elevator as the doors unexpectedly slid open. Mordak didn't have a meeting scheduled with any of the directors. So who… His thoughts were cut off as a large smile emerged on his lips.
"Hey, Tut my man. How's it going, haven't seen you in awhile!" Elios called out, seeing the impeccably dressed young man standing by the desk. Tut gave Elios a warm smile.
"Elios! Where the hell have you been hiding yourself? Haven't seen you up here in what seems like forever," he said, quickly walking across the room and giving Elios a bump hug before stepping back.
"Good to see you again! You didn't get called to the principal's office… did you?" he asked, a worried look flashing across his face.
"No… no, nothing like that. I don't know if you heard, but I got my old job back, so I am here to meet with him to find out where we stand on the matters he had open with Hardscrabble. He fired him this morning," Elios said, giving Tut a regretful look.
"I take it you haven't heard the news," Tut said, sitting down behind his desk and shooting Elios a mournful look.
"I just got this a few minutes ago." He picked up a sheet of paper and handed it to Elios.
"I was just about to type up a company‑wide memo." Elios took it, looking confused.
"No shit!" he said, placing a hand over his mouth.
"He went and took a nosedive off tower one." He shook his head.
"Didn't see that one coming." He sighed, shaking his head.
"I mean, I had no love for the guy, but didn't wish him dead or anything," Elios lied.
"I mean, this is horrible. Anybody see him do it?" he asked, wanting to know the grim details. Stolen novel; please report.
"Yeah, you didn't hear this from me, but that security guard Malik tried to stop him. He was just unable to reach him in time. Saw him step right off the building."
"Did he now? Oh man, that's terrible," Elios said, shaking his head.
"Does he know?" He motioned to Mordak's office.
"Yeah, I gave him the news." Tut scoffed.
"The SOB actually had me convinced there for a minute that he felt badly about it," he whispered.
"He's in there pulling himself together. I really need to find a new job, man." Tut returned his gaze to his desk.
"Working for him is like trying to baptize a sleeping cat… one minute it is purring in your arms, the next it's trying to rip your face off."
"You could come work for me," Elios said, raising an eyebrow.
"Come on, don't tease me like that," Tut replied, eying Elios with profound skepticism. Elios picked up a paperweight from Tut's desk and played with it.
"No, I'm serious. I know you are a hard worker, very organized and professional. Besides, if you could put up with his bullshit…" He paused, glancing at Mordak's office.
"I'm sure you could put up with mine." He looked at Tut.
"What do you say? I got him to authorize an assistant for me. The job's yours if you want it."
"Are you freakin' kidding me?" Tut asked, smiling widely.
"Of course I want it."
"So when can you start?" Elios asked.
"Is right now too soon?" Tut asked.
"What about him?" Elios asked.
"He fired me this morning, so…" Tut snickered.
"I don't think there's a problem. GR will just send some other poor unsuspecting fool to fill the seat."
