Yang woke up the next day with the morning light streaming through the cave entrance. His daily first task was watering the plants which he went out to do first thing in the morning. The plants were growing well and once done watering all the plants he couldn't resist kneeling next to the spirit spiral grass and having it chase his hand. Yesterday, looking at all those wonderful plants and seeing what they could do made him have greater appreciation for this particular field.
He would one day like to delve deeper into it but for now talismans crafting itself was consuming much of his time. Getting into plant cultivation would be years away. Suddenly an idea came into his mind and this time instead of just having the plant lean towards his hand he let out a tiny wisp of qi as he had done for the bees yesterday. He still wasn't used to it and it did take a couple of tries but the qi release was more stable than it had been the day before.
At the release of concentrated qi it was as if all three plants went into alert instead of just the one closest to his hand. They sucked in the qi on the leaves' surface and due to the qi being visible in the same pale gold he could see it gradually disperse along the surface of the leaves. The leaves looked like they were glowing for a second as he watched them absorb the tiny wisp of qi he had given.
They were slower at absorbing the qi compared to the bees which had instantly sucked the qi into their mouths, so it gave him an idea that the plant needed less than the bees, which was not surprising considering it was still a sapling rather than a mature plant. Yang pushed out another wisp and gave it to the same plant again. He watched as the other two seedlings seemed to strain as if to reach closer to him.
He fed the plant twice more, in total 4 times before it stopped absorbing when he offered the fourth wisp of his qi. Yang moved towards the other two plants and offered it to the next one and it greedily absorbed it all. He noticed that the absorption slowed down once the third wisp was given and watched as the second one also refused to take in the fifth wisp. The same followed with the third and last seedling.
Yang for the sake of his experiment offered a fifth wisp to it as well despite knowing it was unlikely that the spirit spiral plant would accept it. And just as expected it refused, or rather was unable to take the fifth wisp of qi in. Yang instead of wasting the qi placed his hand flat in the dirt, directed the qi wisp towards the soil letting the soil absorb it. If nothing else it would help nurture the seedling more slowly.
As he stood up dusting the soil off his knees and hand he turned towards the other two garden beds where he had planted the spirit grass and the blue jade plants. They both were looking to be growing well but considering they had been cultivated by Yang using his altered qi it's likely that despite appearances there could be something different about them.
These plants can't leave me, Yang thought, and growing herbs for others and for himself isn't a feasible option anymore, at least not until he knows more about how his qi affects the plants. The Blue Jade is used in foundation establishment pills. It would be a huge sin on Yang's part if he unknowingly let it be used in a pill that adversely affected someone else. The foundation of a cultivator is the base of their cultivation as can be understood by the name of the realm itself.
That is to say, if the blue jade plant cultivated by him could even be used to make a foundation pill. The spirit grass was also out for similar reasons. It was used in thousands of pills as a binding agent, it was the most common binding agent. It was what gave shape to the pill after combining all ingredients. With the amount of pills it could be used in it would be a miracle to know what effects it could have depending on what kind of pill was made with it.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. Not to mention his own secret getting out. Right now only Senior Brother Lin Yi knew about the difference in his qi and possibly Senior Brother Xiao Zhan. From what Senior Brother Lin Yi believed it was his physique that was different, allowing him to consume beast cores and causing him to generate a different type of qi. But only he knew it was likely the bead itself that had changed something within him.
No, the plants ought to never be sold or given away. At least not until Yang himself becomes proficient enough in alchemy to experiment and figure out the differences and effects ingredients cultivated with his qi would cause, which even thinking about right now feels like a joke. Considering the expertise required, such an endeavour is decades, if not centuries beyond Yang's current abilities.
The other option is finding someone trustworthy enough to share all his secrets with, but then again building a relation of trust takes time and effort. Even Li San wasn't aware of any of his secrets even though Yang loved him greatly and would have died for him. If Yang had his way or the ability he would ensure his plants stayed out of the way instead of being right smack dab in the centre of the path to his cave entrance, but this was out of his hands for now.
Since we are already on the path, let's go all the way. We'll see what becomes of you when fed on my qi, Yang thought as he looked down at the spirit spiral grass. He turned towards the entrance to his cave and went back inside. Once in, he performed his morning ablutions and changed into a fresh set of sect robes.
He really was glad for the sect laundry service, he had to just place the robes in the bin in the bathroom area, and they automatically disappeared and were replaced with a fresh set of robes after a day. And thankfully, the exact same robes. He had been a bit worried in the beginning, but as he kept wearing the robes, he started becoming familiar with the clothes he wore daily. The few sets of robes he had were cycled through the week.
Once done he went to the cave and sat on the meditation platform when he thought of something, but he deflated as soon as the thought came to his mind. He was planning on brewing the pink lotus tea and having it ready nearby so when he got a headache he could drink it and see if he could continue practicing heavenly diversion for longer, but he needs to first get the water technique for it. He will get it later when he leaves for breakfast, for now he will just cultivate as he had been doing before.
He assumed the position and began absorbing the qi and performing the heavenly diversion. Yang got out of the food hall and made his way towards the library to get the Cool Breeze Watering Technique. The techniques were not free and kept in the library so if one wanted to get a technique they had to go to the library instead of the outer sect hall. The library was on another peak, so he needed to use a walkway to reach it.
Once there, it was relatively empty as it was still early morning and not many disciples were out and about. Instead of going inside to search he made a beeline towards Elder Shi Yichen, who was sitting at his desk.
"Greeting Elder," Yang said with a bow.
"Disciple Chen Yang," Elder Shi said and gave a brief nod.
"I am here for a specific technique today. I want a copy of the Cool Breeze Watering Technique," Yang said as he took out his token to pass onto the elder before he could ask for it. Elder Shi took the token.
"Wait for a few minutes." He went inside a door behind his desk. Within a few minutes Elder Shi was back with a manual and passed it along to him along with the token.
"Disciple Yang, you sure have been busy." It took Yang a moment to realise the elder was referring to the number of points in his sect token.
"I have started making and selling talismans to the outer sect hall." Yang continued with a rueful smile, "It has been rather profitable."
"The technique costs fifty points."
"Thank you, Elder Shi." Yang gave a slight bow, unworried about the cost though it was cheaper than expected. He took a look at the manual, and it looked many times better than the Heaven-Refining Soul Sutra copy he had taken from the library. The fresh condition of this manual indicated it was a rather popular technique, enough that the sect kept having to make fresh copies to replace those taken. He placed the manual in his sleeve along with the token as he strolled along the walkway enjoying the view.
He had been so busy lately that he hadn't had time to enjoy a peaceful walk in some time. Since he was already here, he ought to take his time and enjoy the way back.
