Stepping through the Spire portal back into Bastion's central vault, the void-resonance faded, replaced by the warm, familiar Lattice 'hum' of our city's planetary shields. A larger group than usual was waiting on the platform — Anna, Crys, Lucas, Silas, Eliza, Freja, Astrid, and Bjorn. As I stepped off the lead-alloy platform, Anna looked at my face, her silver eyes widening before a mischievous, playful smirk broke across her face.
"Eren..." Anna teased, crossing her arms as she inspected me.
"What have you been up to this time? Did you find another black hole to pick a fight with?"
"Something like that," I chuckled. I opened my [Armory of the Ashen], pulling out the personalized gifts I had brought back from Vael's private vault. I knew these items came with a debt from an ancient Transcendent who was probably only helping me because he needed my unique Hybrid "architecture" for his future Wheel experiment.
But I figured that if a God wanted to shower my found family with pre-Shattering treasures to balance his own interests, I might as well use every single drop of it to strengthen our world.
"These are gifts from a certain gloomy, but actually very approachable guy I met in the void," I told them, placing the items on the vault's slate table. I didn't just hand out ancient pills or powerful elixirs; Vael's vault contained ancient, highly specialized pre-Shattering artifacts, each selected to match my companions' individual paths.
For Anna, I pulled out a glowing, starlight-silver Seed of Chronos — a temporal catalyst that, when planted inside her Core, would nourish her time-conduits during her upcoming Mythic Five breakthrough. For Crysanthe, I presented a Heart of Crystalline Resonance — a pulsing, amethyst-quartz catalyst that would harmonize her native Crystalline Vibration technique directly with planetary gravity-slopes.
For Lucas, I selected an ancient Pill of Nuclear Density — a pre-Shattering breakthrough medicine designed to solidify his shield-core against light-speed kinetic impacts. For Silas, I handed over a Runic Form Blueprint containing lost pre-System martial vector stances. For Eliza, I provided a master volume of Pre-Shattering Soul-Weaving Diagnostics.
And for Freja, Astrid, and Bjorn, I presented three custom-forged, powerful elemental weapons and tools — kinetic hammers and refining catalysts crafted from a material that felt pretty strong. However, as I reached out to present the items, my newly evolved dual-aspect aura Domain leaked out slightly from my core as I was practicing the rotations. The effect on the room was immediate.
Lucas, Silas, Freja, and Bjorn suddenly swayed on their feet, their faces turning pale as their conduits groaned under the sudden, suffocating gravitational and soul-density pressure radiating from my coordinates. Even Anna and Crys caught their breath, feeling a heavy, crushing weight press down on their spiritual frames. I noticed their distress instantly, and I immediately halted my aura flow, pulling my domain and physical density completely inward, locking my presence tight inside my central Star-Core.
The crushing pressure vanished from the room. Silas let out a long, raspy breath, wiping a bead of cold sweat from his forehead and letting out a shaky laugh.
"Whew! Eren... standing near you for a second there was actually painful! It felt like the air turned into lead!"
"It felt like a mountain dropped on my chest," Lucas agreed, shaking his head in sheer awe.
"Your 'density' is getting ridiculous." I stood there, feeling genuinely confused and slightly concerned. I hadn't even channeled active Mana or deployed my [Domain]; my passive essence alone had caused them spiritual strain. I made a mental note to reflect on that threshold during my next cultivation session, filing the observation away to analyze what exact density variable had triggered their wooziness.
"Sorry about that," I said warmly, smoothing down my cloak.
"I'm still adjusting to my new core-rotations."
"Just try not to sneeze," Silas joked, making everyone laugh and easing the tension in the room.
"Eren, how does it feel being literally the heaviest person on Ferra?" Anna chimed in.
"Okay, okay, on a serious note, I have something I need to do," I said. I called them forward one by one to apply a new layer of protection to their soul gates. Using my zeroth-tier [Symphony of the Animus Arch] in conjunction with my white-gold flame, I prepared to execute the Soul-Lattice Weaving technique Vael had taught me. As I raised my hand toward Anna's forehead, I began to carefully explain the parameters of the process.
"I am going to weave a complicated soul-shield over your gate. It will protect you from Runic Parasites and memory corruption. I am also integrating a non-systemic 'Allied Clause' into the tether, which ensures we can't be coerced into harming each other directly or indirectly. I know it sounds—" Anna reached up, gently catching my wrist, stopping my explanation mid-sentence. She looked into my eyes, her silver gaze filled with absolute, unyielding trust.
"Eren, stop," Anna said softly, her voice carrying a quiet, undeniable warmth.
"You don't need to explain the clauses to us. You don't need to justify what you are doing or prove that it's safe." Reading on this site? This novel is published elsewhere. "We trust you with our lives," Lucas said, his voice deep and steady.
"And we trust you with our souls. Whatever you weave into them, I accept." I stood frozen in the vault, my gauntleted hand hovering in mid-air, genuinely taken aback by their absolute, unwavering faith. In a universe governed by cold, parasitic contracts, High Court deceit, and paranoid betrayals, these people were handing me their souls without asking for a single line of proof. A deep, overwhelming wave of emotion and humbled pride swelled in my chest.
"Thank you," I said quietly, my voice raspy with genuine feeling.
"I really appreciate that. But I also still think it's good we all know what it entails. So…" I initiated the weaving. My white-gold flame flowed through my fingers like delicate silk thread, weaving a transparent, lead-alloy soul-shield over Anna's gate, before moving on to the others. The pre-Shattering shields settled over their gates, permanently rendering their memory-lattices immune to external corruption, mental manipulation, or systemic backdoor exploits.
The atmosphere in the vault turned deeply emotional, an overwhelming bond of unified strength and absolute security locking our inner circle together. Following the soul-weaving, we moved to the grand council hall of the Sanctum for a full-scale war briefing. I was genuinely taken aback when I stepped through the double doors. The hall was massive, packed to capacity.
Along with our core council, there were dozens of high-tier representatives, guildmasters, and military commanders from satellite worlds across the sector who had signed non-systemic loyalty contracts with the Void Star. Anna walked up beside me, nudging my shoulder with a teasing smirk.
"Surprised, brother? You're never around because you're always galavanting through deep-void black holes, so Syntheia, Jeeves, and I had to build a proper galactic alliance in your absence!"
"You've done an incredible job," I admitted cleanly, looking out over the massive assembly. Jeeves and Kasian pulled up the primary strategy display, running diagnostic reports compiled by the ANON arrays. The geopolitical map of the outer sectors had transformed dramatically over the last two months. While the High Courts' recent purges had caused widespread fear, our alliance had capitalized on the instability in a way I hadn't anticipated — largely thanks to Aurelius.
Aurelius — who had broken through a massive bottleneck to achieve Tier 12 Transcendent authority — had gone on a terrifying rampage across neighboring galaxies while I was training in the deep void. When six rival Archons and slaver Patriarchs had attempted to betray House Opal and ally with the High Courts, Aurelius had personally visited their capital worlds and crushed six different Tier 12 Patriarchs in single combat, absorbing their planetary fleets, trade routes, and territories under his banner.
"Six Tier 12 Patriarchs?" I looked at Aurelius, my eyes widening in genuine shock. Aurelius sat at the head table, drinking a barrel of Bastion's fruit wine, and flexed a massive, white-gold bicep with a loud, boisterous roar of laughter.
"What can I say, kid? I've been sitting around for three thousand years while those arrogant fools posture! I had a lot of pent-up stress to release!" Rexxar slammed his massive fist onto the table, joining Aurelius in thunderous, boisterous laughter.
"Rexxar approves of the Patriarch's diplomacy! Flatten the traitors and drink their wine!" The entire hall erupted into cheers and laughter, the morale of our alliance reaching an all-time high. With Aurelius single-handedly dismantling six rival Arch-Houses, dozens of neutral merchant leagues, independent mercenary guilds, and outer-sector covenants were lining up, desperately seeking to join the Void Star alliance to escape the High Courts' demands of loyalty and obedience from the entire Sector.
During the council, Jeeves, Leoric, and I presented our new defensive protocol: rolling out my pre-Shattering soul-shields to every forward commander and Vanguard officer in our alliance. As the war briefing concluded, Eliza stepped forward, holding a large, highly detailed proposal slate.
"Eren," Eliza said, her medical robes crisp, her eyes burning with intense, ambitious determination.
"Now that our foundation is set, our alliance is expanded, and our resources are overflowing... I propose we host a sector-wide event on Ferra." I raised an eyebrow.
"An event?"
"The Horizon Festival and Market Auction," Eliza revealed, projecting three-dimensional blueprints of the proposed festival grounds across the hall. Eliza laid out her arguments with sharp, brilliant clarity.
"First," Eliza explained, "our people and our allies have been living under the constant stress of an impending High Court war. A planetary festival will boost morale and solidify the cultural unity of our fledgling civilization."
"Second," she continued, pointing to the market blueprints, "you have provided the treasury with trillions of Quintessence Shards, tons of materials, pre-Shattering data-crystals, and high-grade weapons and tools sitting in our armories and silos. By hosting a grand auction, we can display the Void Star's staggering wealth to the entire Sector, solidifying our momentum."
"Displaying our wealth will attract a lot of attention… Especially from the Court diviners," I noted.
"It will," Eliza admitted cleanly, a sharp, confident smirk touching her lips.
"But it will also attract thousands of high-tier independent mercenaries, master artificers, and outer-sector trade leagues who are looking for a strong, wealthy backer, and refuse to kneel to a tyrant from a distant Sector. We can hire elite war-fleets, purchase rare materials, and expand our logistics without spending a significant portion of our internal reserves." She leaned forward over the table, looking at me with absolute confidence.
"We show the Sector that the Void Star is not a hidden band of scared refugees hiding behind an Iron Cloak. We are an unstoppable, overflowing empire that thrives in the face of the Courts." I looked at Eliza, then at Anna, Crys, Jeeves, and Aurelius. Every single person in the hall was looking at me with bright, excited, and deeply unified agreement. A slow, confident, and utterly fearless smile spread across my face.
"Eliza," I chuckled, shaking my head in admiration.
"I guess we have a festival to prepare for." The entire council hall erupted into deafening cheers. That evening, Bastion celebrated with a massive, city-wide feast in the central plaza. Masha and her culinary team pulled out all the stops, roasting massive slabs of magma-drake ribs, preparing platters of glazed tubers, and serving barrels of sparkling fruit wine for thousands of citizens.
Everyone from human refugees, S'skarr hatchlings, Dweorg blacksmiths, to House Opal knights sat together at long mana infused wooden tables, sharing food, raising toasts, and laughing under the bright, starry sky. I sat on the high balcony with Anna, Crys, and my inner circle, drinking wine and watching our city thrive. Below us, the first construction teams were already assembling the grand pavilions for the Horizon Festival, laying out the auction stages, and setting up light-orbs across the quartz avenues.
I took a sip of wine, my star-cores spinning in a deep, golden-veined rotation as I wove my Flames. The festival was coming, the galaxy was watching, and we were ready to show the universe what the Void Star could do.
