What could she do when she was outnumbered 2 to 1 and was gravely injured? Sobelle asked herself this over and over again. And maybe it was because of her hazy mental state, but she couldn't find an answer no matter how hard she thought about it. There was just no realistic way for her to beat a Pudge and a Job Goblin when she was close to death. The best she could do was sacrifice her own limbs...
'Will that work?' Sobelle's heart started racing. It was possible for her to sacrifice her own body to kill the two greenskins, and it wouldn't have been an option if not for the latest skill that she got. She opened her system and checked just to be sure she wasn't mistaken in its effects. [Redundant Biology - You now have a body that can only be called "unnatural" as not only is it capable of using everything it has for anything it does, it also breaks any rule a body should have. Broken bones? You can now heal them. Your eyes are gone? You can recover them in a matter of weeks. You have high energy reserves? Then your body uses as much of it as it feasibly can.] She was right. Of course she was. How could she forget its effects..? Right, not thinking straight. Sobelle shook her head and focused back on the present; if she could heal limbs, then wouldn't it make sense for her to sacrifice parts of her body for this specific win? Most people did not have this luxury, but she did.
And that would be the reason why she'd come out of this alive. Even if she wasn't in one piece, at least she wouldn't be dead..
'And who knows what will happen to Chael after the Goblins kill me?' That thought made Sobelle wonder why the greenskins that pursued her did not try and capture her when she was weak. Instead, that Pudge... Well, Dumps, moved with the intent to kill. She was a woman, they knew she was a woman based on her torn clothes. Even if those two Goblins were female, it didn't make any sense that they'd willingly chose to kill her instead of capturing her.
'They are sadistic.' Granted, the Goblins let her escape so they savored the thought of Sobelle suffering because of their mercy so the usual instinct to be cruel that greenskins had was there. Yet they still chose to kill her quickly instead of taking her back to their camp, where she would suffer more. Not to mention, the Goblins had a drive to breed as much as possible.
It did not matter if they themselves wouldn't be the one to get pregnant, the two female Goblins who chased after her would want their tribe to have a new sow. A thought came to Sobelle, one that was almost impossible to accept under normal circumstances:'They wanted me dead, didn't they? A Goblin on the higher end of their hierarchy told them that I needed to be killed, not brought back.'
Noggs were rare, and two often did not exist within the same territory so it made sense this new tribe was being led by the same Nogg Sobelle had fought and crippled. So it wasn't that weird to think that the command came from that very same Goblin.
'So they can be scared of something.' Sobelle felt a bit of pride at the thought of terrifying the damned thing who had turned her life upside down. This encouraged her to the point that she willingly pushed herself off the ground and headed for the door. If the Nogg was already scared of her, then what would it think once it sees that she killed the Hob he has sent? Her thoughts kept coming back to the panicked face of that damned Nogg.
She pushed the chest to the side, unknowingly exerting enough strength to burn through her body's fat reserves. The container slid to the left of her and freed the door, which Sobelle opened without an ounce of hesitation. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. Darkness and an empty building; these were the two things that greeted her when she stepped outside of the room's safety.
It might have been because she was delirious, but Sobelle felt as though there was something in the darkness. Yet the haze in her eyes made it so that she couldn't make out the shape, and the lack of critical thinking made her doubt her own senses. She wiped cold sweat off her forehead and stepped forward. She noticed something moments later. [Biological Hypertrophy] upgraded her eyes as well, and she could slightly see better in the dark.
Which made sense in hindsight, but Sobelle had only realized it now because she never got to experience true darkness like this one. The skies themselves worked to keep the world bright, and she had a torch on the rare occasions that they weren't. This epiphany gave Sobelle enough mental clarity to realize that the movement she was seeing in the darkness wasn't some illusion conjured by her diminishing mind, but instead the Hob Goblin who had come to kill her.
'She's playing with her food.' Well, if she was going to do that, then Sobelle wouldn't stop her. She planned to take advantage of what the greenskin was doing and use that to kill her. To start, Sobelle made sure to track the Hob's movements while not making it obvious. She kept her eyes on the looming silhouette of the greenskin.
'Just get closer to me...' Sobelle waited for an attack and then lunged when it happened. She grabbed the Hob by the wrist and then pulled, her other hand then reached forward and held the Goblin's neck. She squeezed her fingers and choked the damn thing without caring for her own well being. The Goblin clawed at her desperately, it even kicked at her stomach. Its desperate attempts to try and free itself hurt, but Sobelle went out of that room knowing this would happen.
She had already accepted that she'd get wounded by this encounter, and was more than happy to walk forward if it meant that it was her who came out alive in the end. She would lose limbs, and even her eyes, and she was fine with it. She would gladly do so.
"Gaak—" the Hob's movements began to slow, and Sobelle knew that it wouldn't be long before it collapsed, and that it'd only be a matter of time before it died.
"I hate you." Sobelle gritted out, the words went past the haze and the pain.
"I hate you!" She screamed, even as the walls of the house shook. She assumed that was the Dump trying to get in.
"You made my life miserable! —" Whether or not the Hob could understand her did not matter, as the greenskin smirked knowing that her screams were that of frustration. It raised its hand, the axe it held went with it. Then it swung, the arch was simple, yet held a lot of power. It struck Sobelle's side and left a massive, bleeding gash she didn't bother to look at. Her focus went toward squeezing the life out of the Hob, who kept trying to free itself even as the light in its eyes died down.
When it finally stopped moving, Sobelle did not feel a single ounce of pride or joy. There was only apathy as she tossed the Goblin's corpse and removed the axe embedded on her side. She must've fallen at least four times on her way to the door, and things weren't any better when she finally got to it; the walls just kept shaking and the Dump did not stop its attempts to break into the house. Sobelle bit the axe's body and embedded her fingers into the wall, some of her nails broke but she couldn't feel the pain.
Either it was the blood loss that did this or Sobelle's lack of any real sense of self-preservation, did the answer matter by this point? None of it even registered in Sobelle's mind, she was hell-bent on climbing to the top of the structure where she could get a proper view of the Dump's head. It had taken a lot of effort and split the skin of her fingers raw, but Sobelle managed to climb to the roof. She walked, and the thatch underneath her feet did not like it at all.
Yet it held on, as if it wanted Sobelle to reach the Dump that attacked it. When she finally got there, she almost fell off the edge and it was even a miracle that she held onto her balance at all. Her jumping down from the roof and hitting the Dump on the head with the stone axe was impossible, really. And even Sobelle herself did not know how she did it. But what came next was probably the most unlikely thing to ever happen to anybody.
With the last bit of strength she had, Sobelle made her way to the house where Chael resided and screamed herself hoarse.
"Chael! They're—" blood spewed out of her mouth and she could only grab at the fluid.
"Gur—""Sobelle?! I can't get out!" Came a voice from the other side of the palisades. Left with no other choice, Sobelle picked up a rock and hit the stone wall as hard as she could. The bones in her hands cracked from the effort, but it was enough to loosen the stacked stones and free Chael. Who then rushed to Sobelle's side in concern, "oh Gods— what happened to you?!" Sobelle turned her head to the side and spat out a mouthful of blood.
"I-I'm fine."
"Fine?! People have died from fewer wounds than this!" The merchant screamed, and that was the last thing Sobelle heard before she passed out.
