Seer Aelira's eyes flew open. Her voice slipped into the minds of every mage within a hundred-kilometer radius, cold and commanding, impossible to ignore.
"We are under attack. Proceed immediately to Camp 91. Repel the enemy reinforcements at any cost. They must not gain ground. They are few, we are many. Go". Hundreds of mages jolted awake. Without wasting a second, they tore open black, glowing portals in the air and vanished one after another, converging on the battlefield. Xarath let out an irritated sigh. He opened a portal and stepped through without hesitation. The battlefield had become a living hell.
Soldiers and knights fought desperately amid flames, screams, and blood. Archers rained arrows down mercilessly, while the ground was littered with charred and mutilated corpses. The mages arrived one after another. Morvath was among them. A golden knight charged at him with a battle cry, but Morvath merely raised one hand. The man's body froze in midair. With his other hand, he slowly twisted his wrist. The soldier's neck snapped with a sharp crack. Without Morvath ever touching him.
Around him, other mages did the same: flesh exploded, bodies were crushed, and lives were extinguished in an instant. Valeron's reinforcements were being annihilated one after another. Then he entered the fray. With a mighty slash, he unleashed a blade of fire that swept through enemy mages and soldiers, burning them alive.
Immediately afterward, a wave of flames erupted outward, killing another dozen foes. He prepared to strike again. But suddenly, Xarath appeared behind him.
"That's quite a sword you've got there". Ethan spun around, but it was too late. A shockwave struck him head-on, hurling him hundreds of meters away. His body skidded across the dry earth, scraping the skin on his arms and legs before finally coming to a stop. Panting, Ethan immediately got back to his feet, gripping the hilt with both hands. Xarath slowly approached him, then stopped.
"A legendary sword, am I right?"
"A mage…am I right?" Ethan shot back, never lowering his guard.
"The greatest of mages", Xarath replied with a smile. Meanwhile, Felicity, Leah, and Xia had finally reached the southern lands.
"We should stop at an inn", Leah grumbled.
"I haven't had a decent meal in weeks". Xia closed her eyes. She remained perfectly still and silent for nearly a minute. Then her eyes snapped open.
"The legendary sword…it's not far away". She turned and mounted her horse.
"Let's go". Without another word, she galloped off. Felicity and Leah exchanged a glance before following her. Ethan unleashed another powerful wave of fire. Xarath absorbed it with a single hand. Then, from that same hand, he sent it back. Ethan managed to block it by raising a wall of flames, but Xarath teleported behind him and struck again with a shockwave, launching him hundreds of meters farther. Ethan crashed to the ground and staggered back to his feet, gasping for breath. His body was covered in wounds.
"You're playing with me, aren't you?" he said, spitting blood.
"The difference between us is obvious. Just kill me already. I'd rather die than be mocked". Xarath slowly raised a hand.
"You're a proud one. Very well. I'll grant your wish". But suddenly, he stiffened. His eyes widened. A presence. Felicity.
"A Prinz?" he thought.
"So the rumors were true. A young girl really did survive that massacre". He clenched his teeth.
"Why didn't I sense her before?! Of course…those damned limiters!" He opened a black portal and cast one final glance at Ethan.
"You're one lucky bastard, Golden Knight". Then he vanished. Ethan was left alone, confused and bewildered.
