The universe was breaking. Not exploding. Not burning. Being rewritten. Everywhere Rayan looked, reality changed. A mountain became an ocean. A kingdom became a forest. A dead warrior suddenly became alive. Then vanished again. The Book of Endings was rewriting history faster than existence could resist. Rayan raised Shadowbreaker.
"We need to stop the book." The Final Narrator shook his head.
"You cannot."
"Why?"
"Because it isn't writing reality." He looked toward the pages.
"It's writing what reality is allowed to remember." Rayan froze.
"So destroying it won't work."
"No." The Narrator looked at him.
"You need to change the meaning of the book." The First Author smiled from above.
"You finally understand." Rayan looked at her.
"Why are you doing this?"
"Because I've watched countless universes destroy themselves." She turned another page.
"I watched gods become tyrants." Another page.
"Heroes become monsters." Another.
"Freedom become chaos." She looked down at Rayan.
"Every universe eventually reaches the same ending."
"What ending?"
"War." Siena stepped forward.
"Then why not let people choose better?" The Author laughed softly.
"Because I have already tried." Images appeared around them. Millions of worlds. Millions of civilizations. Millions of attempts. All eventually collapsing.
"Every time I allowed complete freedom..." She pointed toward the ruins.
"... they destroyed themselves." Rayan stared at the images. For a moment... He couldn't answer. Because some of them were true. Freedom didn't guarantee peace. Choice didn't guarantee wisdom. Possibility didn't guarantee survival. The Author looked at him.
"So tell me, Dharma Heir."
"Why should I trust existence?" Rayan lowered his sword. Everyone stared at him. The Author smiled.
"Finally."
"You understand." Rayan shook his head.
"No." The smile disappeared.
"I understand your fear." He raised his eyes.
"But fear doesn't give you the right to become everyone's ruler." The First Author opened the Book again. A single page appeared. On it was Rayan. Not the Rayan standing before her. A future version. Older. Wearing a crown. Standing above millions of worlds. The page showed him raising one hand. Entire civilizations bowed. Siena stared.
"Rayan..." The Author spoke.
"This is one of the possible endings." Rayan looked at the image.
"You want me to become that?"
"No." The Author smiled.
"I want you to understand." She pointed at the page.
"Every hero eventually becomes what they once hated." Rayan stared at his future self. The crown. The throne. The absolute authority. For the first time... He felt afraid. Not of the Author. Of himself. The Other Rayan stepped beside him.
"Don't look at it." Rayan turned.
"What?"
"That future." The Other Rayan looked at the page.
"I know that face." Rayan frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"I was created from it." Silence. The Other Rayan continued.
"The Void version of you wasn't created randomly." He pointed toward the crowned figure.
"It was born from the possibility that you would eventually become a ruler." Rayan's eyes widened.
"So you're..."
"The shadow of your future." Eshan looked at the page.
"And I'm?" The Other Rayan smiled.
"You're the possibility that rejected both of us." Eshan looked confused. Rayan understood. Three versions. Three choices. One origin. The Author had never created three separate beings. She had divided one possibility into three. Rayan represented Dharma. The Other Rayan represented Void. Eshan represented Aeon. But together... They were something else. The original choice. The First Author suddenly became serious.
"You are beginning to understand." Rayan looked at her.
"Then why did you separate us?"
"Because one being possessing all three forces..." She paused.
"... would become too powerful." Rayan stared.
"Too powerful for what?" The Author looked toward the Book of Endings.
"For me." Everyone froze. The First Author wasn't afraid of humanity. She wasn't afraid of Dharma. She wasn't afraid of Void. She was afraid of the possibility that the three paths could unite. Rayan slowly smiled.
"So that's why you keep rewriting worlds." The Author's expression hardened.
"Enough." The Book of Endings exploded open. Thousands of pages flew across the universe. Each page contained a different ending. Rayan saw one where he died. One where Siena died. One where Eshan became the Void. One where the Other Rayan destroyed everything. One where the First Author won. One where the universe ceased to exist. And one... A blank page. Rayan stared at it.
"What is that?" The Final Narrator whispered:"The only page she cannot write." Rayan looked at the Author.
"Why?" The Narrator answered:"Because it has never been chosen." Rayan smiled. Then he stepped toward the blank page.
"Then that's where we begin." The First Author's eyes widened.
"No." Rayan placed his hand on the page. Golden light appeared. Eshan joined him. Then the Other Rayan. Three forces united. Dharma. Void. Aeon. The blank page began filling itself. Not with words. With choices. And for the first time... The First Author couldn't control what came next. Reading on this site? This novel is published elsewhere. Support the author by seeking out the original. The blank page began to glow. No words appeared. No prophecy. No predetermined ending. Instead... Images formed.
A child laughing. A warrior choosing mercy. A king surrendering his throne. An enemy lowering his weapon. A mother protecting her child. A stranger helping another stranger. Millions of ordinary decisions. The First Author stared at the page.
"What are you doing?" Rayan answered:"Writing."
"You cannot write without an author." Rayan smiled.
"That's where you're wrong." He looked at Eshan. Then the Other Rayan. Then Siena. Then the countless souls connected through Dharma.
"Everyone is an author." The Book of Endings began shaking. The First Author tried to close it. The pages refused. She tried to erase the blank page. The page regenerated. She tried to rewrite the possibilities. They multiplied. For every ending she created... Another beginning appeared. Her expression finally changed. Fear.
"You cannot do this." Rayan stepped forward.
"We already are." The First Author raised both hands. The universe split apart. Dharma energy was torn from millions of souls. Void consumed entire branches of reality. Aeon possibilities collapsed. Eshan screamed.
"Rayan!" Rayan grabbed his hand.
"Stay with me!" The Other Rayan joined them.
"We can't hold this." Rayan looked at him.
"Then don't."
"What?"
"Let it go." The Other Rayan stared.
"You want us to release the forces?"
"Yes."
"That could destroy everything." Rayan smiled.
"Or create something new." The three heirs released their power. Dharma. Void. Aeon. All three forces exploded outward. For one terrifying moment... Everything disappeared. No stars. No planets. No World Tree. No gods. No Astras. No people. Nothing. The First Author stood alone. She looked around.
"You failed." Then... A tiny light appeared. One point of existence. Then another. Then another. The lights connected. A new universe began forming. Not according to Dharma. Not according to Void. Not according to Aeon. According to choice. The First Author stared at the newborn universe.
"What have you done?" Rayan's voice came from the darkness.
"We stopped trying to control it." She turned. Rayan stood there. But he was different. He wasn't glowing with Dharma. He wasn't carrying divine power. He looked... Human. The Other Rayan stood beside him. Eshan stood on the other side. The First Author looked at them.
"You gave up everything." Rayan nodded.
"Yes."
"Your power?"
"Yes."
"Your immortality?"
"Yes."
"Your Astra?" Rayan looked at his empty hand.
"Yes." The Author stared.
"Why?" Rayan smiled.
"Because we finally understood." He looked toward the newborn universe.
"A world doesn't need gods."
"It needs people." Siena's voice echoed from somewhere in the darkness.
"Rayan!" He turned. A golden light appeared. Siena emerged. Behind her came Kael, Caelum, Aster, Sophia, and countless survivors. Rayan smiled.
"You survived." Siena punched him lightly in the shoulder.
"You thought I wouldn't?" He laughed.
"I was hoping." She grabbed his hand.
"Come home." The First Author remained behind. Rayan looked at her.
"What will you do?" She stared at the new universe.
"I don't know." Rayan smiled.
"Good." She looked at him.
"Good?"
"Not knowing is the beginning of choosing." For the first time... The First Author smiled. A genuine smile. Then her body began dissolving into light. She wasn't dying. She was becoming something else. A part of the new universe. A silent observer. Not its ruler. Years later... The old universe became history. The new universe had no divine hierarchy. No predetermined destiny. No absolute ruler. Every world developed differently. Some created Astras. Some created science. Some created magic. Some created neither.
And that was okay. A small village existed beneath a golden tree. A young boy sat beside a river. An old man approached him. The boy looked up.
"Grandfather..."
"Yes?"
"Is the story of Rayan Ashvar true?" The old man smiled.
"Which version?" The boy frowned.
"There's more than one?"
"Millions."
"Which one is real?" The old man sat beside him.
"All of them." The boy looked confused.
"How?"
"Because every person remembers him differently." The boy looked toward the horizon.
"What happened to him?" The old man smiled.
"Nobody knows." Far away... Rayan walked along a quiet road. No crown. No Astra. No legendary weapon. Just a simple traveler. Siena walked beside him.
"You know..." Rayan smiled.
"What?"
"You became exactly what you wanted."
"What did I want?" She looked at him.
"To be free." Rayan laughed.
"Did I?" She nodded.
"You gave up everything." Rayan looked toward the horizon.
"No." He took her hand.
"I gained everything that mattered." They continued walking. Behind them... A golden tree grew. Ahead... An endless road waited. No prophecy. No destiny. No final page. Only choices. And somewhere beyond the stars... A tiny golden flame appeared. The Dharma had not truly disappeared. It had simply changed. It no longer belonged to one heir. It belonged to everyone. Rayan looked back one final time. Then smiled. And walked forward. To be continue....
