Mark was just standing there like everyone else when the zone-wide completion notification came through. Some just stood there quietly; others were already cheering. They were done. It was completed. This had not been what he expected, and he was still trying to get over the run from the south to be here. The months of work were now complete. They had hauled and put in stone, timber, and charcoal. People of all classes helped. Workers were fed, housed, and labored.

And the workers that would use the Forgeworks had trained and learned how to smelt metal and refine ores. The smiths were already using the little bit that has come out so far in the test runs. Then the celebration really started to kick off. People started to move through the crowd, congratulating John and the other 9 primary members of the group that brought the Forgeworks to completion.

The tables were not ready and most of the food was still missing, but nobody cared; all they could think about was that they completed this project together. No one person did a majority of the work; every single person had a hand in its success. Mark started to walk around and through the Forgework buildings. The furnaces were on and burning. There were stockpiles of ore. Storage sheds full of charcoal. There was activity everywhere.

Workers were hustling around, some celebrating and others just doing their job to keep it going. Mark spotted John near one of the furnaces. For once, the man wasn't carrying a list. Three different workers were talking over one another while congratulating him. John looked uncomfortable but pleased. The whole place felt permanent now. Not some temporary dream but a real working part of a larger system.

Flipping through previous pages, he could see maps of the areas surveyed and notes about projects done. He briefly looked at one about alchemy and a healing potion that was discovered.

He realized this was bigger than him. More than just things he had found or figured out or even worked toward. It would be something he would have to go study and maybe share some of its knowledge with others. Then another message came through, one he had waited for.
