Caleb, a smith in training with no class, arrived early today at the Forgeworks and opened the available production tasks list. Caleb says, "Flathead Nails are now on the list. First new item since I started with standard nails." Grant laughed.

"You think that's exciting? Last week I unlocked roofing nails." Caleb blinked.

"What's the difference?" Grant replies, "No idea. But the Forgeworks apparently cared enough to separate them." Caleb said, "And?" Grant replies, "And three days later I unlocked rivets. Wait until you start getting tools; you might regret you don't have something simple like nails to make." Grant, an apprentice smith, opens the production tasks list. Grant replies, "Not sure this will be my first try. Just to let you know, there are 3-4 variations of nails, and then you get rivets. This is my fourth tool request; I failed the first two. But each one and the skill gains that come with it get easier." Mayson, a skilled smith across from them, opened his production list. Mayson said, "No clue on the technique, but have you not heard about Dale's inn?" Best food in the area. It's a hike down to Beaver Crossing but well worth it.

At lunchtime the crews gathered at the benches around the cooking building and started eating their lunch. They were all talking about the tasks they were working on today. People were talking about rivets, hoe blades, and kitchen knives. The new guys were all impressed about the items they made when one guy out of the blue said.

"My task today was to make 15 ten-inch fish hooks. I thought it was a joke at first, but it was listed as a priority order by the system. I would hate to have to reel in a fish that needed a hook that big."

"Fish hooks? thats different never seen those. I always get farm tools for requests."

"Mine wanted wagon-axle brackets."

"What's a wagon axle bracket?"

"Beats me, but there were plans of how to make them, so I did. Got a bonus for the quality of the work." Owen arrived at the Forgeworks after being requested by the Mine Forman to check the newest resource requests and opened the screen. Sam, another miner, says, "I have only seen iron and coal. You must have skills if it thinks you can mine limestone and tin."

Owen says, "I do have skills, but tin ore? What is that? we don't have any of that at the mine." Sam says, "Beats me, but if the Forgeworks thinks you can get it there, it has to be somewhere. Maybe see if the foreman can get a node-discovery specialist to go out looking for new ore veins." Owen says, "You have any clue what limestone is for?" Sam says, "The builders want it, I was told." Owen says, "Why?"

Sam says, "I think for mortar, I was told the smiths use it too no clue why, but that is why it's on your list." John brought up the infrastructure objectives list. Smelter 2 was one of the earliest prototypes; everyone knew it was junk, and those assigned to work it complained they wanted to work the better smelters as the work went quicker.

It looked like the Forgeworks wanted him to do something about it. He would have to find a team and see if they could rebuild it using the new design models they got it would put them behind schedule but in the long run help them produce more ore. John started to make a list of his best guys; it would be a huge project and might even take a team of five a full week. That will really put a dent in the smiths plans of upping production in the short run. Two workers bought up the research tab and looked it over.

They started comparing notes on the things they did today. Mayson was extremely excited to share his [Technique Discovered] message he received to try to get more street cred over the others until one of the original smiths showed him a list of five techniques he had earned.

This started a clamor among the smiths on how to get techniques and how to qualify for the type of tasks that were given to them. At the next table over four miners were talking about tin ore. What was it, how were they going to find it? Why did they need it? Then one of the smiths broke in. They had tin; he wanted it. But the miners had to break it to him; they were given a task to mine it, but no one knew where or how. Then one of the workers said, "The real question is what will be new tomorrow?"
