Grainfields Region Day 2 of Grainworks Initiative Dale was just serving breakfast to the kids at the inn; today's special was pancakes and scrambled eggs. The kids were still mortified that Dale kept cooking the eggs rather than letting them grow into the cute little chicks that the kids loved, but it did not stop them from gobbling them all down and leaving no scraps on their plate. Brian walked through the door of the inn and said.

"Dale, just the one I was looking for. The forest region got the Adventure's Enclave started yesterday, and they have a new option for joining the adventurers' guild. I have a task to share the guild with 20 people, ten in each of two zones. So since my delivery today goes from here to silvermire I figured I could complete it and level up in the rankings." [Guild Outreach] Introduce 20 new members to the Adventurer's Guild.

Current Progress: 0 / 20 Reward: Guild Reputation Recruitment Reputation Dale said, "I am no adventurer, so you are looking in the wrong place." Brian said, "I was told that any ten people counted and that even people not chasing after adventure have things to gain from the system." Dale said, "Fine, I guess sign me up." Dale then received a prompt asking if he wanted to join the guild. Brian ran off to pester some of the other cooking staff for his other nine people he needed.

Dale finally regretfully looked at the system message he got. After a few more seconds of hesitation he finally accepted the registration. He was about to close the menu when he saw the profession ranking tab.

He could swear it had blinked at him but maybe he was admanagining it. He opened it and looked down the list and was surprised to see that there were cooking rankings so he opened it up. [Cooking Rankings] Current Rankings Clara Martha Elise Hey clara and two other cooks he knew were on the list, and Clara was in first place. But he was not ranked. That was just not right. Clara was even in first; he was not going to stand for the little brat beating him out in his own career.

He quickly looked at what gave points toward ratings and saw that cooking food, managing a kitchen, and many other items gave guild credits and rank points. He finally saw that he could submit recipes. Opening the recipes tab, he read that all original recipes would get credit, more credit for complex recipes. But all recipes submitted would then be available to any guild member to make. Ownership/bragging rights were retained by the submitter, but it was open to all guild members to use.

He was a chef; this would be easy. He entered his first recipe, and it was rejected and said it was already submitted by Martha. So he picked another recipe and submitted it and again was rejected, as Clara had submitted it. Okay, game on he can beat them at their own game. He added fish stew, honey bread, and cave mushroom soup. Each recipe gave him 2 guild rep and some cooking ranking points. He again looked at the rankings, and he was now in place #4. Okay, three recipes were not enough.

He then added smoked fish, berry jam, trail rations, and roasted rabbit. Reviewing the list again he was now in place #1. He closed the menu and went back to finishing up his breakfast duties. It stated that her cooking ranking had dropped from #1 to #2. She quickly opened the rating menu and looked. Crap, someone told Dale about this.

She was in trouble. She dropped her spoon and started looking around. She then finally decided she knew a couple more recipes and added apple pastry, honey cakes, rabbit pie, and vegetable soup. She then opened the ranking, and she was happy to see that she was back to #1, so she continued making and then serving breakfast to the people in Forest's Rest. Dale had just taken off his apron at the end of his shift in the kitchen and was heading to a council meeting when he received a new system message.

His rank had dropped from #1 to #2 on the cooking list. He just sighed. That little girl was going to be the death of him. But he did not have time yet to deal with this and continued to his meeting. During his meeting he was distracted the whole way through. Someone talked about needing more people to haul grain, and Dale said he could do it. Not paying attention that they had changed subjects, everyone just stared at him. Was he really going to haul grain?

He apologized for not paying attention and told the group about the new adventures guild thing that he was suckered into. He briefly explained the little cooking battle going on between him and Clara for first place. This really excited Garrick, and within a few minutes Dale had sent invites to the entire council and was amused that he got more guild rep for each one. He even received a bonus on the 5th one. But sadly no cooking credit.

When the meeting was finally over, he hurried back to his kitchen and started entering recipes. He submitted three different bread variations, two fish recipes, and four different varieties of camp meals. Then he went back and verified he was again in rank #1. Clara was just prepping for lunch when she received another system message. She was now at rank #2, and Dale, again, was in place #1. She screamed at the top of her lungs, and everyone around her stopped and stared at her.

She immediately left the kitchen and went around the camp talking to people and trading free meals for any recipes they could share with her. Tom was sitting in the crafting area finishing up an item for a customer that was waiting. The guy and his friend were going on and on about how great this adventurer thing was. He was a hauler, and even he had things he could gain from it. Reputation and rankings were all the two could talk about.

When they finally left, Tom opened the interface and finally accepted the invite that was waiting for him. Clara had sent it to him earlier; she was trying to get guild rep for whatever that was worth. After the enrollment was complete, he went and found the rankings that the two guys kept talking about, and he saw ratings for dozens of things. As he was scrolling through the list, he saw leather-working rankings and opened it up. The list was blank.

There was a list of ways he could get rankings, one of which was just doing his job, but he saw that there was an option to add leatherworking info. He submitted information on basic tanning, hide treatment, and water skin construction but not his special ones, as he did not want others to know how to make them, as he had a corner on the market. He then added leather armor repair techniques and bow grip wrappings. At this point he noticed there was a system message he had received while adding all that stuff.

[Profession Ranking Established] Current position #1 Leatherworker Tom decided this adventure thing was not all bad. A miner with an ore-finding skill brought up the resource rankings list and found on it Iron, coal, copper, and stone were all discovered and had a list of 15 other items that could be found in this zone or the zones east and west of this one. It did not say what could be found or where but indicated there were undiscovered ore veins.

He looked, though, and found a couple discovery tasks; he would start looking for new ores when his shift was over in the mine. A herbalist in wayrest had finally accepted the invite to the guild and went looking for what had already been discovered when she realized that the entire boards were blank.

With a delighted look on her face, she went through her inventory and identified marsh root, bitterleaf, river mint, and cave moss and was excited when she got the profession ranking established message with her listed as the #1 herbalist. She was going to have to go visit the swamp and start adding items before someone else caught on.

[Profession Ranking Established] Current Position: #1 Herbalist Guild Reputation +10 Late in the afternoon Dale received another message, and he was again in place #2 with a laugh he went and sat down in his office and added almost every single recipe he was willing to share into the system and gained his #1 place back with a huge margin to spare. Dale just laughed as he could picture Clara throwing a fit. Clara was starting the dinner meal when she received another system message. Her rank had dropped to #2 again.

She took her spoon and threw it across the kitchen, nearly hitting one of the servers. Everyone knew the problem; she had been stomping around all afternoon gathering recipes and had only entered them all a half hour ago after she could not find any other new recipes. She pulled up the rankings and found the recipes list. She had 31 registered recipes. She screamed again when she saw that Dale now had 47 listed. She just stared at the numbers, and everyone in the kitchen started to back away from her.

Clara finally stood up and slammed the recipe book she was holding on the table and marched out of the kitchen and slammed the door. Clara said, "There is absolutely no way Dale knows forty-seven recipes; he is a cheater. And tomorrow I'm going to prove it."
