Ch. 42: (0/1) Follower(s) 12 available ability points 1 available ability mod (0/1) Follower(s) Strength, Mana, Dexterity, Perception, Constitution. I sat on the edge of a building while I studied my system. I was not taking a short break after patrolling the streets. Even with cloudstep using half mana, I was getting spent. I needed some time to recover and I needed some fresh blood to feed my supplies. Blues of the night met the oranges and reds from the chaos of the infernabeests.
Brave human firefighters were attempting to enter the active combat zone to maintain the madness as best they could. I ignored this as I continued to look at my new abilities. My strength and constitution were off the charts. My dexterity was good. My perception needed work and as always, my mana was the lowest by a far margin. I had Bloodsucker. That had been making up for the lack of mana. I needed to find Nelo. It was a no brainer.
For the first time since I had initialized with the god system, I poured the available ability points into perception. There would come a day when I would make some smart rational choice and I wouldn't make a leveling choice based on the problem in front of me. But unfortunately, today was not that day. The effects took hold of my body. I heard more. I felt more. I saw more at once. There had been a lag between my brain and my body, this was the discretion of my perception and my dexterity.
If I didn't close this gap, eventually a complex situation happening too fast for my brain to process would do me in. The next step was to look at my ability mods. There were now four options to choose from with the addition of my evolve point. Cloud durability: Double the durability of your clouds Fire negation: Can negate fire from 0-1400 degrees celsius.
(Red to yellow) Healing 1: Heal someone you touch 20% of their total health Gap: Increase the space between you and your opponent by 5 inches The choices were rarely the same. They would shuffle and present to me like cards. Once I had made the choice it was like they were placed back in the deck and shuffled again. I pressed the most obvious choice and I felt the buzz of energy throughout my insides. Then there was this stat: (0/1) Follower(s) A strange flaw in the system that I had taken advantage of.
The gods did not give consent to who they touched. It was a temporary King Midas situation. Any nongod you touched or touched you would become your champion. My eyes flitted to the new tab that appeared on my home page. Systemcraft I touched it and was taken to a wall of documents, each filled with headers, subtabs, bullet points. As I braved the contents within, pseudo-legalese mixed with complex math formulae would sometimes beg the question of an empty box for me to fill out.
As my stomach gurgled from the informational overwhelm, I reached for the help tab and asked, "What happens if I don't fill any of this out?" Hey:). If you don't fill this out, we, the titans shall fill it out automatically. This will be based on combat optimization. But I don't think you need that for who you're thinking about.
"Okay. Can I get a brief overview of how this works?" More looks than books, huh?: (These documents are a brief overview. The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. If you'd like more info, ask your guide. What the fuck? This titan was kind of a femcel." Okay, thanks for this. I'lll… see if I can get in contact with him. Also, next time? Just pay me a compliment. Don't like… make it backhanded. That's negging and it doesn't work." Negging totally worked on me; she just wasn't very good at it. I needed to speak with my guide about the system I was crafting, but who knew where he was? Had he even met with Squonk? Even if he had, tech started to act funky around tar pit stuff. I would need some other way to message him. My eyes averted the swaths of information and found their way to the tabs again. I had forgotten about the messaging tab. All these gods had been prying about me and I mostly ignored the blaring red number over it. I clicked on it, and the searched up Squonk's name. I friended him. He accepted it so fast I almost didn't notice the notification. When we became friends, it gave me the ability to call him. … … … The line picked up. I could hear bickering before someone spoke up." Hey, sorry. I've got… I'm so busy. What's up?" Squonk asked"Is Spiros with you?" I asked. My guide's petulant voice chimed in, "Drake! Get me closer to the screen, numbskull. Gods, your hands are clammy. Don't drop me."" Spiros… I can't make heads or tails of the systemcraft. How the hell does it work?"" What!? Doing some light reading are we? You want to stop in the middle of this battle to craft the system? If we have a quick moment shall we build a rocket ship"It's the touch. I only have one follower slot and I have to use it on Dory. I'm waiting for some mana to recharge anyway. I need to build this thing now. How does it work?"" Okay… I'll try to explain it as simply as I can. When a human is touched, they are given a numerical score on the five different categories. Strength, perception, mana, dexterity, and constitution. The average human lands somewhere around 10 or below for most categories." Mana is often low for most champions starting out, but it is a complex formula based off of such factors such as outlook, agreeability, intelligence etc. When they are touched by a god, all these categories immediately increase by a factor of five. If someone has a 10 strength, they now have a 50. Then comes the god mods. Your current stats get divided by 100 and added to their stats. This number is rounded to the nearest. 5. With me so far?" I bent over and puked out of nervousness." What's happening?" Spiros asked, "There's no video, are you eating something? What is it?"" Oh, fuck. I'm so fucked," I said." Drake. Start easy. Go to 'Class Creation.'" I clicked on the subtab." Fill out 'Class Name.' Easy enough?" I filled out the class name. Spiros continued, "You now have to choose which of your powers you will base this class on. Since this is about your sister, Voids and fire wouldn't do her much good. Magic clouds maybe, Good Fortune would be her best bet." There were spheres made of different material, one was a black void, the other was cloud, the third was fire, and the fourth was a pale blue light. I selected that one." But…" Spiros said it and I unclicked good fortune from the slot instantly, "You have such heinously low mana and we don't know what her natural mana score would be. So let us focus on fortifying her constitution."" She's agreeable. Intelligent. I think it would be good."" The mods you give your followers are based off your current scores. The mods she gets are based off hers. She's kidnapped and ailing."" Spiros, she's got cancer. Her constitution is probably close to nil."" Yours is +8. If hers is 2, and that puts her at 10 upon touch, with your mod that would put her at 18. This is the way. The spheres should have a base category if you look inside of them. Check what 'Void' is." I pressed the void sphere and saw the category it was based off of." Perception."" Choose clouds then, it has constitution as a base." I added the cloud sphere." Now," Spiros continued, "Let's leave almost everything else blank for now. The only things we need to publish the class left are the welcome message and the level 1 skill. There is a submission box with some prefilled suggestions. Delete them and write in something. Once you're done-""Says it got rejected."" What did you write?"" I wrote 'cure player's cancer'""Yes, that will get rejected. You need to write something within reason for a level 1 and something at your level. Even if you just write the general idea, the titans will return something back to you."" Okay, let me think." I typed n something I called, 'nourishing clouds' and wrote up a paragraph about how it treat someone's ailments. I pressed enter. Hey! This is a great first start, hun. Way more reasonable than that silly first idea. Here's my pitch back:"That's bullshit," I huffed." What does it say?" Spiros asked." It's bullshit. It says, 'Nourishing cloud heals player's nausea for the next hour. That's nothing."" Drake," Spiros said, "You're level 50. It's your first follower and it's a level 1 spell. I suggest you take it. Besides, time is of the essence. And we have… matters to attend to." Squonk piped up and said, "No we don't!" I tapped my fingers on the rooftop nervously. The flames from the buildings were getting hotter and there was an infernabeest approaching that I could steal mana from. I sighed and said, "Fine. For now." I accepted the proposal and the screen shifted, merely saying: Class created!" You're right, we have to get going. Squonk, are you near Dodgers stadium yet?"" Uhhh," Squonk said, "Uhh, relative to the Earth, yes. But-""That's why I wanted to talk to you, Drake. Squonk admitted it himself." Time was running against me. I had no clue where Nelo was, and I could only imagine what Exley was up to. I had trusted Squonk with my life. So my face cringed with anxiety and anger when I heard the words coming out of his mouth."" Squonk's not going."
