The early morning sun over Vale brought none of the usual academic bustle to Beacon, but the campus was far from silent. The air was thick with the high-pitched whine of Atlesian plasma torches, the deep rumble of gravity dust generators, and the rhythmic, metallic shclick-shclock of shattered architecture being physically forced back into the laws of geometry. Standing atop a half-collapsed balcony, Professor Glynda Goodwitch pulled her riding crop through the air in a sweeping, theatrical arc.
Her green eyes flashed with the bright, emerald light of her Semblance, The Dualist. Beneath her, an entire three-story segment of the auxiliary combat hall, weighing easily forty tons, lifted smoothly off the cracked plaza. The jagged stone edges groaned, sliding over one another like puzzle pieces, before snapping together with a deafening, seamless crack.
"A bit to the left with the main conduit, Specialist," Glynda called out, her voice amplified by her Aura. Below the floating building, a team of Atlas engineers in white coveralls scrambled to run thick bundles of dust-shielded fiber optics into the newly exposed basement level. They were working around the clock to restore basic water pressure and power grids to the first-year dorms, their progress swift under the pragmatic, uncompromising eye of the substitute headmaster.
Near the western quad, a giant wooden crate served as a makeshift command post. Yang Xiao Long sat on top of it, her right arm locked securely inside a heavy medical sling. With her left hand, she lazily twirled a pen over a clipboard, her violet eyes tracking the movement of her team.
"Looking good, princess!" Yang called out, a smirk fighting its way through the faint lines of exhaustion on her face.
"Only forty-two more pillars to go. Keep that posture up!" Weiss Schnee glared over her shoulder, her white hair pulled into its signature off-center ponytail. Her pale face was flushed from exertion, and white, intricate Schnee glyphs spun beneath her boots as she channeled her Aura to lift a massive, solid marble pillar from the debris pile. With a sharp flick of her wrist, she guided the stone block onto a neat, perfectly aligned stack.
If Father had his way, I'd be staring at the ceiling of my manor right now Weiss thought, her chest heaving as she stabilized the glyph. She glanced toward the CCT tower, where an Atlas cruiser hovered silently. Winter had blocked the private transport orders, and Ironwood had sealed the docks. But more than that, the terrifying financial leverage Jacques Schnee usually held felt completely hollow now. He couldn't even stand in the room with our security guard without breaking his own cane. I am staying.
I am going to be a Huntress. A few paces away, Ruby Rose and Blake Belladonna were manually hauling smaller chunks of shattered brick into a wheelbarrow. Ruby's silver eyes, however, weren't on the bricks. They were locked onto a figure about fifty yards away. Saitama was wearing a bright green, loose-fitting denim jumpsuit provided by the Beacon faculty, a major upgrade from the yellow spandex, though he still wore his red rubber boots.
He held a standard, wooden-handled straw broom, looking down at a large, scattered pile of white mortar ash and shattered tiles.
"Watch him, Blake," Ruby whispered, her voice dropping into a conspiratorial hiss as she leaned on her shovel.
"He's been standing there for five minutes. He's calculating the precise kinetic vectors of the debris field. Look at the intense focus." Saitama wasn't calculating vectors.
"Geez..." He was muttered, staring at the dust.
"If I don't get this pile moved before the wind picks up, it's gonna get in my eyes. And this broom has three loose bristles. What a piece of junk." With a mild sigh of irritation, Saitama brought the broom down and gave a single, rapid sweep to the left. FWOOM. The broom didn't just push the ash. The sheer speed of the wooden handle cut through the air, creating a vacuum that instantly sucked the entire pile, along with several loose cobblestones, into a tight, hyper-accelerated cylinder of wind.
The column of dust shot straight up into the sky, breaking through the low-hanging morning clouds with a sharp crack of compressed air until it vanished completely into the upper atmosphere. Ruby's jaw hit the handle of her shovel.
"Did you see that?!" she shrieked, grabbing Blake by the coat hangers.
"He didn't just sweep! He swept at a sub-atomic level! The air pressure alone carried the friction into low-orbit! His technique is flawless!" Blake blinked, pulling her bow tight against her head as the sudden vacuum ruffled her hair. She stared at the clean, perfectly bare square of earth where the pile had been. No Aura spike. She thought, a cold sweat breaking out on the back of her neck. No Semblance trigger. He just... swung a piece of wood. It defies every textbook in the library.
Weiss simply closed her eyes, letting out a long, suffering sigh as she rubbed her temples.
"Ruby, please. Just fill the wheelbarrow before he decides to dust the grass and launches the entire western wing into the sea." Weiss then looked to Saitama. A smile formed on her lips. Thank you for helping me breaking my cage up.
At 5: 00 AM, the central courtyard was still cast in a deep, pre-dawn blue. The air was freezing, but the small patch of grass near the training grounds was already damp with sweat. The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement. Ninety-eight... ninety-nine... one hundred. Jaune Arc slammed his palms against the dirt, pushing his entire body up one last time before collapsing flat onto his stomach.
His grey training shirt was completely soaked, his chest heaving violently as he spat a mouthful of loose grass from his lips.
"More! More! Come on, Fearless Leader!" Nora Valkyrie shouted, sitting cross-legged directly between his shoulder blades. She was casually swinging her legs, completely unbothered by his agony, while holding a paper plate stacked with thick, syrupy pancakes. She took a massive bite, talking around the food.
"The bald man said you gotta break the limit! Your limit isn't broken yet! It's barely even bent! Push-ups! Go, go, go!"
"Nora..." Jaune groaned, his fingers clawing into the turf as he struggled to lift her weight.
"I... I can't feel my arms." Lie Ren stood five paces away, his arms folded neatly into the sleeves of his green tunic. His pink eyes were fixed on the alignment of Jaune's spine, his analytical mind tracking the subtle shifts in the boy's posture. He isn't pulling from his core energy, Ren noted, his brow furrowing slightly. Usually, a Huntsman relies on Aura to mitigate muscle fatigue. But Jaune is actively keeping his shield down. He's forcing the physical fibers to tear and rebuild on their own. It's...
primitive. But his density is changing. From the steps of the temporary medical pavilion, Pyrrha Nikos watched them with a quiet, intense gaze. Her left arm was still bound in medical linen, her skin retaining a slight paleness from her near-fatal encounter with Cinder Fall. But as she watched Jaune struggle to rise, her green eyes filled with a deep, complex warmth. He isn't trying to match my legacy anymore. Pyrrha thought, her fingers tightening around her sash.
He isn't trying to be the hero from the storybooks. He's just... working. Because he saw a man who had nothing but a routine, and he realized that was enough. Far across the courtyard, sitting on the roof of a half-repaired equipment shed, Saitama sat with his boots dangling over the edge. He had a small carton of apple juice in his hand, the straw stuck firmly between his lips as he watched the kids.
"Look at that kid go." Saitama speaks his thought, watching Jaune slowly heave Nora an inch off the ground before crashing back down.
"His form is a little sloppy on the squats, but his dedication is pretty good. Reminds me of when I still had hair and my knees used to make that weird popping sound every time I got out of bed." He then stood up and turning around to leave.
"Keep it up, kid. Though, if you keep letting that pink girl sit on your back, you're gonna ruin your lower lumbar."
Near the airship docks, the campus was a hive of industrial movement. Team CFVY was in full operational mode, managing the constant stream of supply drops arriving from the Atlesian corporate sector.
"Easy on the crane, Yatsuhashi!" Coco Adel called out, her signature sunglasses tilted down her nose as she checked off a digital manifest on her scroll.
"We need those reinforced steel girders near the foundation, not the gardens!" Yatsuhashi nodded, his massive frame straining slightly as he helped guide a massive, ten-ton block of structural steel off the cargo bay of a heavy transport ship. Fox Alistair stood beside him, using his heightened sensory awareness to direct the blind spots for the ground crew.
Velvet Scarlatina stood ten paces back, her long brown rabbit ears twitching rapidly as she aimed her high-end camera at the damaged roofline of the dining hall, snapping high-resolution reference photos so Glynda could precisely reverse the structural decay later. A shadow fell over her lens. Saitama walked past the cargo bay. He didn't look left or right.
His right hand was tucked into the pocket of his green jumpsuit, while his left shoulder carried a literal twin block of the ten-ton reinforced steel girders Yatsuhashi had been struggling with. He was strolling casually, his posture completely straight, carrying the massive block of industrial metal as if it were a light sack of mulch from the local garden center. Velvet's ears did a full, frantic 180-degree twist, snapping flat against the back of her head. Her camera dropped slightly as her eyes widened.
Ten tons... Her internal weapon-replica brain calculated in sheer panic. He isn't even balancing it. The structural load should be crushing his collarbone into powder, but the metal isn't even leaving a dent in his skin!
"Hey, big guy!" Coco called out, stepping into his path with her hands on her hips. She looked him up and down, her eyes lingering on the loose green denim and the bright red rubber boots.
"Look, the strength? Incredible. The efficiency? Ten out of ten. But that jumpsuit? It looks like you robbed a municipal garbage collector. We need to get you to a tailor in Vale before the academy officially opens. A hero of the school needs a brand, Saitama!" Saitama stopped, the ten-ton steel girder shifting slightly on his shoulder with a dull clonk. He looked at Coco with his most standard, annoyed face.
"Look, fashion lady," Saitama said, his voice a flat drone.
"This green suit is super comfortable. It has six pockets. Do you know how hard it is to find a suit with six pockets back home? I can keep my trail mix, my wallet, my house keys, and my phone in here without anything falling out. Leave my clothes alone. You're being like that mustache guy with the stick." Coco raised an eyebrow, a rare smirk crossing her lips.
"Mustache guy? You mean Jacques Schnee? You shattered his cane with a breath, honey. You can handle a little style critique."
"Whatever," Saitama muttered, turning back toward the construction site.
"Just tell me where to put this big metal thing. My shoulder's getting kind of sweaty."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the temporary library annex, housed inside a large, Dust-lit military tent, became perfectly quiet. The local network had been partially restored by the Atlas tech teams, allowing access to the historical archives of Vale and Mistral. Blake Belladonna sat at a long wooden table, a stack of ancient leather-bound volumes on her left and a glowing holographic screen on her right. Her cat ears twitched underneath her black bow as she typed another command into the search query.
Search: "Hero Association" — 0 Results Found. Search: "Z-City" — 0 Results Found. Search: "Mysterious Beings / Disaster Levels" — 0 Results Found. Sun Wukong leaned over her shoulder, a half-eaten banana in his hand as his tail swished lazily behind his chair.
"Still nothing, huh? Man, you've been digging through those old files since last week. If there was a kingdom called 'City Z,' I think someone would have written a song about it by now."
"It's not a kingdom, Sun," Blake said softly, her amber eyes reflecting the blue light of the monitor as she leaned back, rubbing the bridge of her nose.
"And it's not a hidden continent either. I've checked the pre-Great War navigation logs, the ancient myths of the shallow seas, even the old folklore from the deserts of Vacuo. There is absolutely no record of a society that categorizes human beings by 'C-Class' or 'S-Class' rankings." She looked out the open flap of the tent. Across the dark courtyard, Saitama was sitting on a bench under a working streetlamp, casually turning the page of a crude comic book Sun had given him earlier.
He looked completely ordinary, almost entirely invisible against the backdrop of the massive, ruined castle towers.
"He wasn't lying," Blake whispered, a profound, quiet reverence filling her voice as she watched the bald man scratch his chin.
"He really doesn't belong to this world. He comes from a place where the monsters are so common they name their cities after letters, and where heroes are treated like desk clerks. He's a total outsider... and he saved us without even knowing what a Huntress was."
"Yeah," Sun said, taking another biteof his banana, his eyes softening as he looked at Saitama.
"But hey... at least he likes the comics. Maybe our world isn't so bad after all."
