Recap: You survived the Entity's fire thanks to your new Ironband Defense. You're at 5/17 HP (Critical). You voted to HIDE IN SEWER (SUBTERRANEAN). Five HP. I was one solid kick away from becoming kindling. Passive regeneration was a joke. One HP per hour? I'd be dead of old age before I was full health. I needed a meal. I needed organic matter. I needed to stop worrying about dignity and start worrying about not dying in a pile of human trash. The rat was still there.
It had paused near a rusted iron grate covering a drainage culvert. It squeezed through a gap where the bars had corroded away. If a rat can fit, can a box? I was 2 feet wide. The gap was… maybe 18 inches. Normally, I'd be stuck. But I was Ironband now. My wood was denser. My iron bands were structural. I positioned myself over the gap. Below was darkness. And the smell… oh god, the smell. It made the dungeon look like a perfume shop.
SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Stamina Cost: 2 SP (Force Entry) Current SP: 16/22 I dropped my weight. 120 pounds of concentrated mimic slammed onto the rotten wood surrounding the grate. CRACK. The wood gave way. I plummeted. SPLASH. I landed in sludge. Cold. Wet. Viscous. It seeped into my hinges. It smelled of decay and forgotten vegetables.
SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Status Effect: Filthy Effect: -1 Charisma (If interacting with humans) Effect: Camouflage Efficiency Reduced in Clean Environments Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings. Great. I was a dirty chest. But I was alive. I opened my lid a crack to check the damage. Sludge dripped off my false bottom. I closed it quickly. Camouflage re-engaged, but the grime made me look less like a "mysterious ancient chest" and more like "abandoned junk."
Perfect for a sewer. I activated Tremorsense. SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Skill Used: Tremorsense Cost: 1 MP/sec Current MP: 7/12 The vibrations here were chaotic. Water flowing. Rats scuttling. But also… something large. Slithering. Slurp. Drag. Slurp. About twenty feet down the tunnel. It sounded wet. Heavy. I slid forward. My weight made me sink slightly into the muck, but my iron bands kept me stable. I wasn't sliding on top of the sludge; I was plowing through it. The tunnel widened into a circular brick chamber.
In the center, floating in a pool of stagnant water, was a glow. Not magic. Bioluminescence. A Sewer Slime. Green. Translucent. About the size of a dog. It was pulsing over something. A body? No. A pile of bones. Food, I thought. Slimes are organic. They give XP. They give HP. But Sewer Slimes were acidic. I knew that from the Yellow Slime on Floor 2. That fight cost me 4 HP. I was at 5 HP now. If I took 4 HP damage again… I'd be at 1 HP. One sneeze could kill me. But the smell of the slime…
it smelled like pure protein. Like a steak wrapped in lemon juice. My stomach growled. The metal items inside me shifted. I had to decide. Risk the acid for the heal? Or look for safer food? My tremorsense pinged again. Behind the slime. In the shadows. Something else was watching. Something with claws. Current Stats (Level 2 - Ironband Mimic): HP: 5/17 (Critical) Mana: 7/12 (Tremorsense active) Stamina: 16/22 (Entry cost) Inventory: 2 Pebbles, Metal Items (Fused).
Status: Filthy, Critical HP, Sewer Slime Ahead, Unknown Predator Behind. What do you do? A) EAT THE SLIME (HEAL) Risk the acid damage. Bite the slime. Gain +5 HP. Potentially reach safe health levels. (Cost: 2 SP. Gain: +5 HP, XP. Risk: Acid Damage (approx 4 HP). Net Gain: +1 HP?) B) AMBUSH THE PREDATOR The thing behind the slime is dangerous. But if you eat IT, you might get more HP. Wait for it to attack the slime, then strike. (Cost: 0 SP. Gain: Potential High HP Regen. Risk: High Level Enemy.) C) SCAVENGE THE BONES The slime is eating bones. Bones are organic (marrow). Wait for the slime to leave, then eat the leftovers. Safer, but less HP. (Cost: 0 SP. Gain: +2 HP. Risk: Slime might return.) D) FLEE DEEPER Ignore the food. Move away from the predator. Find a safe corner to regenerate slowly. (Cost: 3 SP. Gain: Safety. Risk: HP stays critical.) VOTING CLOSES IN 24 HOURS. Reply with A, B, C, or D. Most votes wins. [Author Note] Thanks for voting on Chapter 30! Option C (Sewer) worked!
You're in the Stonehollow Undercity. You're Critical HP (5/17) and need food desperately.
