Recap: The Librarian offered a Key (Memory Loss) or a Vent (High Risk). You voted to CHOOSE THE VENT (RISK). Identity was everything. Without Earth, without the Mark, without Storage… I was just a monster. A smart box. But still a box. I couldn't let go of that. Not yet. I vibrated my lid. Sharp. Decisive. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. (The Vent). The Librarian didn't flinch. It didn't judge. It simply closed the book on the pedestal. The key above its palm dissolved into gray mist.
"Choice… Recorded…" the Librarian intoned.
"Path… Unmapped… Danger… Extreme… System… Responsibility… Ends… Here…" It raised a hand. The far wall of the Archive shimmered. The shelves of memory crystals slid aside like theater curtains. Behind them lay not a door, but a hole. A jagged shaft of raw stone and exposed mana conduits. Sparks flew from the walls. The air smelled of ozone and rust.
"Vent… Sector… 7… Delta… Good… Luck… Anomaly…" The Librarian began to fade. Its gray robes merged with the shadows.
"Wait!" Torin shouted. He stepped forward, Void Armor gleaming.
"What's down there?"
"Traps…" the voice echoed from everywhere and nowhere.
"Collapses… Mana… Vents… No… Respawns…" Then it was gone. The Archive was silent. Just us and the hole. Kara walked to the edge. She dropped a pebble. We waited. No sound of impact.
"Deep," she whispered.
"Very deep." Torin looked at me.
"You chose this, Box. Why?" Because I'm not done being me, I thought. I nudged his leg. Buzz. (Trust Me). He sighed. He adjusted his sword belt. The Void Armor settled onto his shoulders like a second skin.
"Okay. We follow the Box. Renn, check for wires. Kara, light us up." We entered the shaft. It wasn't a tunnel. It was a service chute for the Dungeon itself. Pipes of crystallized mana ran along the ceiling. Gears the size of houses turned silently in the walls. It was the guts of the world. SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Zone Change: Floor 9 Access (The Vent) Environment: Industrial Hazard Threat: Structural Collapse, Mana Leaks Status: Off-System (No Checkpoints) No Checkpoints, I thought.
If we die here, we don't come back. Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. We slid down a ramp. Steep. Slippery. My Voidband traits gripped the stone better than my Ironband ones had. The starry black metal hummed against the mana pipes.
"Watch out!" Renn yelled. Above us, a panel shifted. A grid of spikes descended.
"Shield!" Torin roared. He raised his arm. The Void Armor flared. The spikes hit the armor and… bent. SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Party Buff Active: Tank Synergy Effect: Torin Damage Reduced by 50% Effect: You Gain +2 SP Regen The spikes retracted. But the floor beneath us shook. A crack formed. Right under Kara.
"Move!" I creaked. I slammed into her side. She stumbled forward. CRACK. The floor collapsed where she had been standing. A pit of swirling blue mana opened up. Disintegration field.
"Too close," Kara breathed. She looked at me. Her eyes were wide.
"You… you saw that?" Core Resonance, I thought. I felt the mana weaken. We kept moving. The Vent twisted. Left. Right. Down. Every ten feet, a new trap. Pressure plates. Gas vents. Laser grids. I was the sensor. My Tremorsense + Core Resonance could feel the weak points in the system. I'd vibrate to stop them. I'd Slam a pressure plate before it triggered. I'd Bite a mana wire to disable a laser. But it was draining.
SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Stamina Cost: Hazard Navigation Total SP Spent: 10 Current SP: 24/34 We reached a junction. Two paths. Left: Stable. Quiet. Right: Shaking. Loud. Glowing red.
"My tremorsense…" Renn said. He was pale.
"The left path… it's too quiet. Like… a vacuum."
"The right path," Kara said.
"It's unstable. It might collapse." I felt the Left path. It wasn't quiet. It was empty. Nothing existed there. Not even air. I felt the Right path. It was dangerous, but real. Right, I thought. Danger we can fight. Nothingness we can't. I slid toward the Right tunnel.
"Right it is," Torin said. He didn't question. We entered the red tunnel. The heat rose. My Thermal Adaptation kicked in. The party sweated. Ahead, the tunnel ended. A massive fan blocked the way. Rotating. Blades of solidified magic.
"Stopper," Renn said.
"We can't pass." I looked at the fan. It was powered by a mana conduit on the wall. I looked at my Stamina. 24/34. I looked at my MP. 24/24. I had Gravity Well (5 MP). I had Slam (5 SP). I had Bite (2 SP). If I bit the conduit… I might break the fan. If I used Gravity Well… I might jam the blades. If we waited… the heat might cook us. The fan slowed. Then sped up. A cycle. Now, I thought. When it slows.

(Cost: 5 MP. Gain: Stop Fan. Risk: MP Cost, Might Break Fan Permanently.) B) BITE THE CONDUIT (SABOTAGE) Wait for the slow cycle.
Bite the mana wire powering the fan. Cut the power. (Cost: 2 SP. Gain: Stop Fan. Risk: Electric Shock, Timing.) C) SLAM THE WALL (COLLAPSE) Slam the wall beside the fan. Collapse the tunnel to bypass the fan entirely. (Cost: 5 SP. Gain: New Path. Risk: Party Buried, Unstable.) D) STORE THE PARTY (TRANSPORT) Put Torin/Kara/Renn in Dimensional Storage.
