Recap: The Keeper warned you about System Administrators if you consume the Geode. You voted to ASK KEEPER FOR QUEST (ALTERNATIVE). Power was tempting. Safety was smart. But options? Options were for people who knew how to work the system. I didn't want to eat the Geode. I didn't want to leave it. I wanted… a loophole. I vibrated my lid. Not a yes. Not a no. A question mark pattern. Buzz… Buzz… Pause… Buzz? Is there… another way? The Keeper's crystal eyes flared. She didn't speak for a moment.

She seemed to be consulting something beyond us. The air in the chamber grew heavy. Static charged my iron bands.

"There… is… a… Cost," she finally projected.

"To… Gain… Without… Taking. To… Rise… Without… Breaking." Torin shifted his weight.

"Box… what are you doing? It's staring at you." Ignore him, I thought. Focus. I vibrated again. Buzz. (Tell me).

"The… Core… is… Corrupted," the Keeper said. She gestured to the Geode. The white light flickered with veins of black.

"A… Parasite… Feeds… Within. Consume… Geode… You… Eat… Parasite. You… Become… Corrupted. Administrators… Detect… Corruption." Ah, I thought. That's the catch. It's not the power. It's the taint.

"Leave… Geode… Parasite… Spreads. Dungeon… Falls. You… Die… Eventually." So both options suck, I thought. Classic RPG design.

"Third… Path," she continued.

"Purge… Parasite. Heal… Geode. You… Gain… Reward. Dungeon… Remains… Stable. Administrators… See… No… Anomaly." SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Quest Offered: The Purge of Prism Objective: Enter the Geode (Instance). Defeat the Core Parasite (Level 6 Elite). Enter the Geode? That sounded like a dungeon within a dungeon. A pocket instance. And if I failed… we all died. Kara stepped closer.

"Box… your bands are humming. It's… offering something?" I vibrated toward the Geode. Then toward myself. Buzz. (Me vs. Inside). Torin frowned.

"It wants to go inside the crystal? Is that… safe?"

"Only… the… Anomaly… Can… Enter," the Keeper said. She looked at me.

"Flesh… Burns. Metal… Shatters. Box… Resonates." Because I'm a mimic, I thought. And because I ate a Sub-Core Fragment. I had to decide. If I accepted, I'd be solo inside the crystal. The party would have to wait outside. If I died in there… they'd be trapped on Floor 6 forever. But if I succeeded… Level 6. Clean power. No hunters. I looked at Torin. He trusted me. Kara believed in me. Renn… well, Renn just wanted to live. Okay, I thought. Let's do this. I vibrated a strong, steady hum. Buzzzzzz. (Accept).

SYSTEM NOTIFICATION Quest Accepted: The Purge of Prism Status: Active Instance Mode: Solo (Party Excluded) Preparation Time: 60 Seconds The Keeper raised her staff. The Geode hummed. A doorway formed in the crystal surface. Not a hole. A portal. Swirling white and black.

"Box?" Kara asked. She reached out but stopped.

"Be… careful." Always, I thought. I slid toward the portal. The heat was neutral. The cold was neutral. My Thermal Adaptation kept me stable. As I crossed the threshold, the voice of the Keeper echoed one last time.

"Cleanse… It… Or… Be… Cleansed…" The world twisted. The cavern vanished. The party vanished. I was… elsewhere. A white void. Floating platforms. And in the center… a shadow. A creature made of black smoke and jagged glass.
