Chương 10: Chapter 9: The War of Humans and Demons Begins Again; Himari Enters the War

I then gave my order: Himari shall go back to help the humans in the war. We shall watch from the sidelines to see if any problems arise. I then turned to Himari, telling her, "Don't kill the Demon King; just make sure he either retreats or exhaust him so he stops fighting. I want you to keep the balance in this war without helping either side win. If you get into any trouble, don't worry—we are watching from the side and will help if necessary." Himari understood and prepared to go back.

After a day of preparation, we set off. I then arrived with just Himari and Sophia at the human continent, as the war had just started and there was no need for everyone to come. I then sent Himari to the human forces' camp at the border as I stayed here to observe the ongoing war. Once Himari left, I then turned my attention to the battlefield, which was quite stable despite the fact that so many demons were fighting. I then asked Sophia, "How many of the Demon King's army have come?"

Sophia answered, "Except for the Demon King himself, it seems all the generals have come to participate in the war. They are probably in the back right now, giving out orders. As for why the Demon King himself hasn't come, I can only assume he is waiting for something." I understood and asked a different question: "Is Suzune still watching over the situation on the human side?" Sophia answered, "Yes, she is still continuing to gather information." I nodded, saying, "Let's continue to let her do so.

As for us, let's just continue watching without doing anything." We then waited as we looked for any unexpected changes in the war between humans and demons. A few days passed, and Himari was sent to the front lines to help kill a few high-level monsters and demons to alleviate the burden.

As she was killing many of the demonic forces with her newfound strength, unexpected changes occurred; the generals, seeing the hero, finally came out to the battlefield, wanting to remove the biggest obstacle if it continued to grow. Himari, seeing the demon generals, could only run away from their pursuit. After retreating for a short while, she stopped as the human generals had also arrived to confront the demon generals. A fierce fight broke out as these generals all used advanced-level magic skills or higher.

This fight was simply out of Himari's reach at the moment, as she couldn't compete even with the weakest of the generals at level 201. Seeing that the situation had stabilized again, Himari went back to her task of defeating demons. After a full day of fighting with neither side getting an advantage, neither side's general died; they could only retreat due to exhaustion. Both sides then retreated for the day, preparing to fight again the next day.

Himari then left with the humans as they went back to discuss what had happened today and what to do in tomorrow's battle. In this way, the second day of the war had ended. As we still hadn't seen any unexpected changes, we decided not to do anything just yet. In the coming days, nothing really changed, and the war continued in this balanced manner, and neither side really gained an advantage. Himari was doing her role and making sure the situation didn't get out of control.

The only change was that both sides' forces were thinning out, and it seemed the war was slowly starting to end. After a month, the first demon general was slain. This caused a sudden unequal balance in power among the two forces. Though this was evened out with the death of a human general, more powerful generals started dying after that, as after a month they started noticing the weaknesses of each other after fighting for so long.

The two sides' forces continued to dwindle, and soon both sides seemed to be only a third of the forces they originally sent here. I assumed the war was going to end like this and I really didn't need to intervene. In the coming days, nothing changed. Then one day, Suzune came to give a report: "The Demon King is coming, so the human race has sent out their strongest warrior. The clash of the strongest is about to happen."

It seemed the peak of the war was about to happen. The outcome of the war depended on what happened next. My ideal outcome was both sides suffering severe injuries, forcing them to retreat. This would mean the current war would end for this time before it would happen again at a different time. Then a day later, the Demon King arrived on the battlefield, and to my surprise, his level had increased significantly more than I saw a year ago. Somehow, the Demon King had reached level 325.

This surprised me, as it shouldn't be possible to grow this fast, and I couldn't understand what the secret was in the demonic continent that was causing this. On the human side, the strongest human warrior came to confront the Demon King. The human warrior was level 255, only progressing a slight bit since he was last seen. Though both sides seemed extremely unequal, the only thing that made the humans have a slight fighting chance was that the human warrior had skills about ten levels higher.

So, the battle of the strongest on both sides began. The fight quickly turned to the human warrior's disadvantage, as skills simply couldn't bridge the enormous level gap. The human warrior, though, still managed to repel the Demon King with clever tricks, as he didn't have support because both sides were still fighting. After several more days of observing, the situation took a severely bad turn for the human race as the strongest human finally perished, with the Demon King piercing him with dark magic spears.

The human warrior was full of spear holes as he collapsed, dying from his injuries. This time, it seemed it was my turn to intervene, so I headed towards the battlefield. Suddenly, while I was getting close, a sudden beam of light shot down from the sky. This was a powerful strike, even enough to kill someone at level 1000. This attack I had seen before from the human side. They had used it rarely over the thousand years, and each time they used it, it amazed me.

Though considering they use it so rarely, I can guess that it takes a lot of resources each time it is used. The light came down, striking directly into the Demon King, who couldn't dodge the beam of light. Soon after being hit by the beam of light, he was reduced to nothing. This made the humans cheer as the Demon King was defeated, and I could do nothing to stop it due to the suddenness of the situation. I didn't think the humans would use it just yet when the situation had only just turned bad.

I then realized that the situation was going to get annoying; as the Demon King was now dead, the humans would have newfound motivation and would try to invade the demonic continent again. This would mean I would have to repel the humans again soon. Seeing the Demon King dead, the remaining demonic generals ordered a retreat, causing the battle to come to an end. The demons managed to have a successful retreat, and they went back to the demonic continent to defend their land.

The humans cheered and held a celebration as the war had ended. The celebration lasted several days, and in the end, Himari was summoned to the audience of the rulers of the human continent. There, like usually when the Demon King was defeated, they gave Himari a choice: go back to her own world or help them continue to subjugate the demons. Himari then gave her answer: she would go back to her own world, is what she told them.

This was due to the fact that having more impact on the war from the human side would make it even more unbalanced. So after giving her decision, she left and came back to me to report. What surprised me was what she said after the initial report on the war. Himari told me something I had wanted for a long time now but didn't have the ability to do. It was world transfer magic: the ability to go back to Earth.

I didn't think she would get the magic as she is no longer the hero, but since it was recent and she still had the magic of a hero, it blended with the dead Demon King's power and let her use it. From what I could tell, as long as the Demon King was dead, the hero could return back to their world. This situation was strange, though, as in the thousand years since I started recruiting people, I never recruited a hero who had first defeated the Demon King.

All the heroes that have been recruited were ones who didn't feel like defeating the Demon King anymore, causing their hero magic to disappear over time, making it so even if the Demon King died, it didn't let them go back. While I had seen other heroes outside of my organization use this magic to return home after defeating the Demon King, I myself had never been able to recruit one who had actually done so. So I, at most, could see them using the magic but could not replicate it.

This magic was simply above what mortal skills could achieve and could only be granted or used by god-level magic. I couldn't contain my excitement, as I had long forgotten to try to find a way back to Earth. It was simply far too hard, as trying to find a hero who wanted to join was hard enough, much less defeat the Demon King, which was something I always prevented; but since the Demon King has just died, it created an ideal situation for this to happen. I then asked, "Is it possible to take me with you back?"
