After reentering the area, I used my usual tactic and picked off the weak ones first. It didn't take me long with my newfound power to slaughter the rest of the mid-level Gods present, as I was now far stronger than them. Once I had dealt with all the Gods that were left, I had leveled up significantly and reached level 8621. I was approaching the level of a high-level God with the guidance of Freed and was very grateful for his help. Having finished my task, I left the area and quickly reunited with Freed.
We then went back to the forest so we could continue with what we usually do after a task. Freed trained me again as I still wasn't remotely strong enough to face Trisha, so I continued to comply with his training. This time, though, Freed didn't send me out to kill any more Gods, as it seems Trisha was starting to become wary of our presence. I had killed too many Gods and had alerted her, so I couldn't go outside anymore to level up or I would be facing her wrath directly.
I continued to train with Freed, as this was the only way I could get stronger without leveling up. The training was starting to have diminishing returns as my skill level rose. Since the gains were so small and we had to stay in hiding to avoid being noticed by Trisha, I kept training in secret with Freed for thirty years. At this point, I managed to progress my swordsmanship to [EX] Divine Swordsmanship (Lv. 60). Now with this level of skill, I no longer progressed no matter how hard I tried.
Freed, seeing my stagnant skill level, seemed to know what was happening as he stopped training me any further.
"Your current level can't withstand having a higher skill level," Freed explained.
"It seems this is the limit of training in secrecy, and we have to risk going outside to level up."
"Won't Trisha find us if we go outside?"
"We don't have a choice, as we can't just hide here forever."
"I understand. Then who will I be fighting against next?"
"Since your current level is so high, the only opponent worthy of giving you a challenge is the strongest mid-level God. He is someone you should have heard of before."
"Who might that be?"
"The Demon God Uru, who is the God of the Demonic Continent that you had been fighting for so long."
"So, it's that God, but is he even related to Trisha? I remember demons fighting against the humans, so aren't they enemies?"
"It may seem that way to you, but in actuality, they are brother and sister."
"Then why are they fighting each other so aggressively in the mortal world?"
"From what I found out, they made a bet over a thousand years ago on who was a better leader. To prove their claims, they began a war between the two races."
"Didn't the demons come to the Human Continent because they lacked resources and the humans didn't want them to expand onto the Human Continent?"
"That is true, but have you ever wondered why the Demonic Continent is deprived of resources and why the humans hate demons for no reason?"
"Now that you mention it, I remember hearing that Trisha ordered the humans to fight the demons out of nowhere, despite them posing no threat at first." A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. Suddenly, I realized something after saying it out loud. Trisha indeed started the war for no reason, and it was strange how the Demonic Continent just conveniently ran out of resources.
"So, you realize it now," Freed said as he saw my changed expression.
"Everything was fabricated, and it was simply a game among gods."
"Is that why Trisha became so angry when I got involved in the war?"
"That's right. You involving yourself in the war ruined their bet, and no one was the winner. Since that was the case, a thousand years' worth of effort was for nothing, and they are very angry at you."
"They must really hate me for what I've done if that's the case."
"Hating you is an understatement. They probably want to tear you apart for ruining their bet."
"So, is that the reason you chose Uru? Since he is the brother of Trisha?"
"That's right. Since we will be facing Trisha sooner or later, it's best to weaken her forces. The most trustworthy person in her forces is obviously her brother."
"Alright, I understand. So will we be going now?"
"Correct, we will be going right now. Since you are so high level now, I no longer need to hold back my speed, so make sure to keep up." Freed then started moving at a speed several times faster than before. It seems he wasn't kidding, as he had held back all this time to make sure I could keep up. Not wanting to be left behind, I ran after Freed, barely managing to see his trail as I tried to keep up. We had to move fast, as we didn't want to alert Trisha if we took too long.
We moved nonstop for several days before we arrived at a desolate place devoid of life.
"This is Uru's territory," Freed explained.
"Make sure to quickly kill him, as he is the brother of Trisha and his death will cause a lot of trouble. I will stay here to make sure Trisha doesn't bother you if she does come."
"If she does come, are you sure you can hold her back with your injuries?"
"Don't worry. I have lived all this time despite being a wanted man, so I have my own tricks to escape."
"Alright then, I'll be going in." With time being so tight, I didn't say any more words to Freed and directly entered Uru's territory. Wanting to keep our location a secret as long as possible, I sneaked in to try and kill Uru while nobody knew that we had infiltrated. I slowly made my way in, as I had to avoid several prying eyes from all the mid-level Gods in the territory. The sheer amount of mid-level Gods around was far too many, which goes to show the authority that Uru had as the brother of Trisha.
I had to be extra careful, as there were so many powerful people around. Finally arriving at the entrance of the throne room, I wanted to scan my surroundings to better my chances. While I looked around, I quickly saw a dark-haired man with horns and large black bat-like wings behind him. I knew this man was Uru. However, Uru was on his throne sleeping, and I felt like this was a great chance to take advantage of.
I began to slowly make my way into the throne room, trying to make as little sound as possible to make sure Uru didn't wake up. Once I was right in front of him and ready to make my move, Uru's eyes suddenly opened, which startled me. Since I was already in an advantageous position, I didn't waste time and continued my attack. Despite just waking up, Uru caught my sword with his bare hands and threw me backwards, making me land quite a distance away.
After doing so, Uru was now fully awake and stood up from his throne.
"You look familiar," Uru said as he stared at me with his dark, lifeless eyes.
"I think I saw you when my sister showed me an image. It seems you are here to seek death, since my sister has been too lenient."
"Nonsense. I'm here to kill you. I have no intention of dying by your hands today."
"What nonsense are you talking about? Can't you tell that I'm far stronger than you?"
"You never know unless you try, so come at me."
"Have it your way." With our talk broken down and a fight inevitable, I wanted to make the first move again. As I got close, a giant dark ball of magic started to appear and began to suck me in. It seems his power was no exaggeration, as he created a miniature vacuum of space. Not wanting to be sucked in and die, I quickly dug into the ground with my sword, trying to wait it out until the spell stopped. Despite me waiting for so long, it didn't end, and I was starting to get impatient.
I then started to get an idea, as it was impossible to keep this up forever. My idea was to smash everything in the room and have the debris sucked into the vacuum. I refused to believe he could suck an infinite amount of things into such a strong spell. I started by using magic to break whatever I could and have the pieces sucked into the vacuum. As the amount of objects that were sucked in increased, the vacuum started to close before it completely disappeared.
Uru, now having lost control of his strange spell, looked visibly exhausted. It seems that was his instant kill spell and it took a lot of energy. Finally seeing an opportunity to counterattack, I decided to risk everything and attack Uru at his weakest moment.
