Chương 14: Chapter 13: Himari’s Assessment on Becoming a Rook

I then took Himari to the training grounds to have her take her assessment. She had seen Thea's assessment before in the background, so she felt familiar with what was going to happen. Though she wasn't sure she could pull off the same thing as Thea did before her, as her current level was far below Thea's at the time. I then told her, "Don't worry about the level as much for this assessment, as level 250 is just the minimum to become a rook. What I assess is your thinking skills and combat flexibility.

From what I can tell, you are far more flexible than Thea, so this assessment shouldn't be too hard for you, so just try your best." After saying some words of comfort, I then told Himari to get ready as we will be starting soon. Seeing that she was prepared and was in her combat pose ready to start, I then decided I should start now. I then said, "Start." I then started the assessment this time by pulling out my sword for short-range combat. As Himari used to be a hero like me, she had her own swordsmanship skill.

I attacked her using strange angles and attacked where she had blind spots. While doing this, I showed where I was going to aim, as I was trying to see how she reacts to the slightest hints to see her awareness. Seeing where I was aiming, she blocked where I was attacking. In this assessment, to distract me, she mixed attacks with her defense so that she would have breathing room.

I was trying my hardest, so I allowed her to do this, but I didn't let her get comfortable as I then started throwing magic attacks in between every few close range attacks. She dodged when she could and countered with basic magic to conserve energy. I then backed away as I finished testing her close-range combat skills, intending to go fully magic attacks starting from this point. I then shot out intermediate-level magic with clear weaknesses so that if she was smart, she could easily dispel it with basic magic.

Himari lived up to my expectations, and I slowly increased the level of my spells and gave fewer weaknesses to exploit. As the change was gradual, she adapted to the situation quickly and was now comfortably deflecting high-level magic attacks. After several more attacks to test various things, we were nearing the end of the time limit. I then decided to test one more thing before the time limit ended. It was to see what she would do in unexpected situations.

I then sent my magic into the ground, freezing it quickly towards Himari, and then pulled out my sword again, rushing my attack at her. What she did next was surprising, as she used earth magic to burrow into the ground, causing herself to escape being frozen or have to engage in a sword fight. With no target for my sword to attack and the timer nearing its end, I didn't have any time to do anything else. As I sheathed my sword, the time had ended and Himari had passed.

I then used my magic to open the ground, to which I saw her with several magic shields surrounding her, seemingly trying to stall for time. I was impressed that she was prepared even in unexpected situations. I then told her, "You have passed. The assessment is over and you will now be promoted to rook. Come up here to claim your reward." Himari, hearing this, had estimated that the time was nearly up but couldn't tell exactly when.

So, hearing the assessment was over, she finally dropped her magic shield and came out of the ground. Coming up from the ground, she suddenly saw the crowd around her, which had been empty space before. She suddenly realized a crowd had gathered to watch her assessment, and yet she only noticed just now. This narrative has been purloined without the author's approval. This situation was surprising to everyone present, as rook promotions are so rare that most people here haven't seen one other than Thea being promoted. Himari suddenly felt kind of shy, as she didn't notice the crowd before because they were so quiet and standing so far away before. I then took Himari to a quieter place without people. Once we arrived at a more secluded place, I updated her exp boost to 2x the exp, officially making her the tenth rook, and told her the skill ranks and how god-level power worked.

I even told her how I recently gained god-level magic thanks to her. Surprised, she then asked, "Then if I continue practicing world transfer magic, can I also reach god-level magic skill?" I replied, "Yes, you too can reach level 100 magic by using world transfer magic, as this is a skill at the level of the gods but can be wielded by mortals." Learning the value of the magic, Himari wanted to go back and practice using the magic more to continue progressing her magic skill.

She then asked me a few more questions she had doubts about, and I answered everything to the best of my abilities. After everything was asked, she went off to practice her world transfer magic to get stronger faster. I then went and did the same, as this skill was still too draining to use. If I really used it, the amount of magic I would have—if I set aside going back to Earth and back—would only be enough for a few magic spells once I arrived on Earth.

As I don't know if I need to use magic back on Earth, I still wanted to be prepared in case of unexpected situations, so I wanted to level the world transfer magic a little more so that it wouldn't be so draining. Half a year later, I reached level 10 of world transfer magic, making it much easier to use than before. It also had an unexpected benefit of making my EX Magic skill reach level 2.

I then decided to stop, as any more progress would take too long, and so much time had passed, and I started finding it strange why the humans haven't attacked the Demonic Continent yet. So, it would be for the best if I am ready for the situation to change any day now. My guess in the end was correct, as just a week later, Lucy, who was spying on the Demonic Continent, and Suzune with Sophia, who were sent to spy on the humans, came back to give a report.

Lucy began first and said, "The demons are starting to make their move, as they had set a trap for the humans as the ancestral demons were waiting in secret, prepared to attack at any time. But to their surprise, the humans never came. After so long, they are tired of waiting and decided to attack the humans personally." I was surprised to hear that so many powerful demons were used just to ambush humans. Then, the report from Sophia and Suzune was just as surprising.

Sophia began, "After the last war, we decided to spy on the human side's higher-ups who were in charge. We found out that though the white beam back then was powerful, it wasn't their strongest weapon. Though we aren't sure how strong it is, but apparently it takes a lot of resources that it could cripple all of the kingdoms to a certain extent. It's why they are so reluctant to use it."

Suzune then continued, "In the time since the last war, seeing the situation was strange, the humans investigated and found the demon king to be sent out to die far too easily. So, they found out after some guessing that the demons had set a trap. They then decided to activate their more powerful weapon of unknown power before invading the demonic continent."

Sophia then continued from that, "It seems the humans want to settle everything with the demons this time, as the war has gone on too long and the current higher-ups of the humans have become too impatient to wait to end this war any longer." This information left me speechless, as in the thousand years I have been in this world, the situation has never turned as bad as it is currently. So many powerful beings have come out of hiding to end things from the Demonic Continent.

On the side of the humans, they are going to use a weapon that is stronger than the last weapon that could kill level 1000s. I simply didn't know what to do in this situation.

"Since either side is so dangerous, let's just watch from the side first. If an outcome is decided, let's go help the side that is losing when the time comes. This way, we don't have to face them right now when they are at their strongest." The three women, knowing how dire the situation had become, knew that this situation was for the best, as they could not rashly intervene right now because the situation was very dangerous currently. I then gave an order, "Call back all the rooks that are currently on missions.

We are going to need them to help soon in the coming conflict. Though their tasks are important, the situation currently is out of control." The three women then left to carry out the task to gather all nine rooks currently in Equilibrium.
